Hi guys,
I usually don't get into racers much (PGR some). Anyway, I've never owned a racing wheel and pedals or whatever. 1. What's a good wheel/setup? 2. How does this work? I sit on the couch and play. Do I need to get a table, chair, etc.? Any pictures of setups out there? Just thought I'd ask since we're getting close. I've been messing around with the Japan version of GT5P (darn those Japanese characters). It's pretty good, but just using the controller is a pain in the butt. |

There have been some good force feedback wheels made by Logitech released for the previous GT games on PS2. I cant remember the names right now. I would assume they are going to be compat with GT5 because they were with GTHD.
How you set them up is up to you. You can rest them on your knees or attach them to a table. I have even seen pics of someone building and setting up a little cockpit with a racing seat and all. |

I'd check the compatibility first, but the logitech G25 is impressive - comes with a H-layout gear stick and pedal-box complete with clutch pedal. It apparently works on F1 on the PS3, so GT5 shouldn't be a problem.

![]() I may go up to $100, but over that and I've got to question myself. Spending $300+ on a game is a tad ridiculous. ![]() |

Anything over $100 is a waste for me as I'll probably only play it now and then. |

LOL, I'll pass.
That seat was like 350 Euro, which is about $550. Spending $1,000 for everything? Someone has issues. ![]() What's next? An authentic cockpit for flying sims? Hmmm . . . |

I have the GT4 wheel (Logitech Force Feedback Pro), and I must say it's fabulous. Worth every bit of the $200 price tag (back in 2005?). The only game I've really raced with it was GT4. Now, you may not be much into racing games, but GT is another beast and you can very likely get hooked on it, even if its not traditionally your thing. I find it incredibly difficult to enjoy other racing games now.
You may be able to find some of the older Logitech wheels made for GT3 and GT4 at a cheaper price. I just did a quick ebay search and found a Force Feedback Pro for $70. With a well-designed wheel setup, it's an incredibly immersive experience. I'd recommend a wheel with 900' rotation, pedals, and force feedback. For an enjoyable experience, you'll want to rig a way to get the wheel mounted to a HEAVY table that you can bring close to your torso while sitting, while keeping the pedals at legs' length away. Ideally, you're trying to mimic the feeling of being in a car. This is more tricky than it sounds. You can get wheels that you squeeze between your legs, but with force feedback, you won't have great control this way - the wheel's resistance will be absorbed by your legs as the wheelbase moves. Hence, the heavy table. If you have hardwood floors, you may find the pedals slip away from you also... Coffee tables work, but often are too low to be comfortable, plus you can't get your legs under for pedals. Computer desks and kitchen tables are great. TV tables are too flimsy with force feedback, unless you load them with weights. The G25 is cool with it's H-stick features, but I see them as overkill. My GT4 wheel has a 2-way gearbox, but I never use it, opting for the wheel-mounted paddle-shifters (far more efficient while playing). Personally, I would avoid a cheap wheel because there is less chance you will enjoy using it over a controller. Regardless of how much you spend, if you don't ever use it, it was a bad investment. If spending the extra will make you use it, then I'd say that's the better investment. |

Saw a new playseat on ebay for $250 USD.... they might not be so expensive. There are other companies that make similar products, but this one is the most compact-able I've seen.

Is it even worth buying GT5 without a wheel?
