Thumbs down Disappointed/angry at M. Liebman's review of The Reaping!

Man, if he hates the movie so much, he shouldn't review it at all! Or he should ask other people their opinion before destroying one of the only intelligent thriller / horror movie around. Poor PQ? Give him a Samsung so he can see what good PQ means!

I rather enjoyed the movie, maybe because I wasn't expecting much when I put it in. I didn't think it was nearly as cheezy or poorly written as the review suggests. I didn't think the PQ was that bad either. Not great, but not bad either. I liked the ending too, I thought it was going to be a mess but it wasnt bad at all. I agree, I think the 0.5 is a bit harsh, I understand if you didn't like it, but it was nothing even close to the worst movie I have ever seen.

I thought he was generous awarding it 0.5/5. This was easily the worst film of 2007, in my opinion.

my wife liked it, it was ok in my opinion. i don't agree with the numbers he gave in his review. maybe a 3.5 for video and a 3 for the movie itself. it wasn't as bad as daddy day camp or norbit or mr bean so it couldn't be the worst of '07.

but that was his opinion and not agreeing with it it our opinion. come one zyclone, don't be one of "those" people. its just a little constructive criticism.

The Reaping is a decent movie. No Oscar winner but about average.

Technically, any BD is a good one to review here, as many people come here for advice on the purchases they want to make. That's not so bad either, considering the prices on BD's, getting advice is a good thing. The trick is finding a reviewer with similar tastes.

As for this paticular review, I pretty much agree with it. It was awful, although I think I still might have given it a 1/5. Still, that'd be generous.

I don't read the actual movie review parts of DVD and blu reviews as frankly I don't give a shit about the opinions of someone else on a film. I just read the technical assessment.

However, in a case where someone clearly loathes a film, they simply shouldn't review it. It is pretty hard being technically objective when you have a hard time actually watching the film. It isn't going to get the attention.

It definetly is a bad review but its his job to give his opinion and not all movies are winners. I havent seen it but if its as bad as the village I dont want to.
Quote:
Suffice it to say, this was one of the worst films I've ever seen. I don't enjoy this aspect of the job, handing out scores this low, but I have to be honest about my convictions and give this one the lowest score available. It's a shame, because the subject material is ripe for a good story and movie, but in my view, the filmmakers failed, miserably, at bringing this to the big screen. Unfortunately, in this instance, a lackluster movie transferred to a lackluster Blu-ray presentation. The video quality is questionable at best, though the audio quality isn't bad. The supplemental materials are rather skimpy as well. The Reaping may not be filmmaking at its absolute worst, but I would suggest everyone avoid it like the plague.

i don't get that ether, the reaping was very good, and the so was the pq!
reviewers opinions mean very little to me unless other reviewers say the same thing.i wound'nt go by one opinion.as long as you enjoyed the movie the hell with what they say.they are just people with opinions
most people liked ''no country for old men''.i thought it was real good, but best picture???.''gone baby gone'' and ''we own the night'' were a lot better...but thats my opinion.

This movie although I have not seen it was given a 3 star transfer at HDDigest and 2 stars for the story, He seemed to like the sound at 4.5 stars. If HDDigest is giving that title the benifit of the doubt maybe the review is just a little biased. When hating a movie its really hard to find anything positive to say .

I'm sorry you were disappointed with the review. As I stated, I dislike giving such a low score, but I just didn't like the movie in the least. I am sure there are movies I love that you hate, which is fine. That's the way of the world, and why we have a user review section as well. Thanks for reading anyway!

I came to the conclusion long ago that Mr. Leibmans opinion is not always the same as mine. Ive never seen the Reaping, so I cant comment on that directly. But hes given low scores to movies i really liked, and high scores to movies I thought where crap. But thats life, not everyone likes the same movies.

My favorite example is Crank and Shoot em up. Crank was by far the better movie IMO, but Shoot em up got a way higher score. Basically he must not have realised they're the same type of movie (over the top action/comedies) with Crank having way better acting, and way funnier moments.

Yeah, I agree. My guess is that the reviewer is coming in with certian biases before even watching the movie. I'm no critic and I don't know all the basics for which a movie should be critiqued on. However, I did like the movie. I saw the good and the bad, but I was able to enjoy it.

I guess my point here is that a review needn't be free from all biases nor should they be totally balanced. Each person has their own taste in movies and this one obviously did not appeal to the taste of the reviewer. I can list a couple of movies that got bad professional reviews but I loved them.

Hmm...I went in expecting it to be horrible, but I like others would have to disagree with the review. The PQ was OK, not the greatest, but the movie in general I found enjoyable. My girlfriend wanted to see it, so I added it to my netflix queu. I bought it after I rented it from netflix. I do like the ending of the movie, wasn't expecting it at all!
