Default Anyone here from San Diego?

Just curious as I am going down to San Diego in June to watch the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines golf course. My dad and myself are coming all the way from Canada as we are huge PGA Tour golf fans and I actually got tickets.

Wondering what other attractions are a must see while we're in the area. Thanks. I know it's gonna be awesome!

I live 20 minutes from Torrey...I would highly recommend Old Town, great Mexican food everywhere, GasLamp - good shop and food, and Coronado (if you have the time take the ferry across). The Hotel Del (in Coronado), is historic and really worth visiting...I proposed to my girl there...

I recommend Sea World Theme Park. You'll love Shumu and get splash! :wet:

I've lived in San Diego (from Los Angeles though) almost a year now. How long is your trip? Here are some SD recommendations, let me know if you'll be visiting LA too!

You should definitely check out Sea World. Whales, penguins, a glass tunnel surrounded by sharks, oh my!

The historic Hotel Del Coronado is beautiful, it's haunted, the Marilyn Monroe movie Some Like It Hot was filmed there, it's where a Welsh prince met the woman he gave up his crown for, The Travel Channel named Coronado Beach as California's #1 beach, and oh yeah, my fiancé works there at the Hotel Del! The island of Coronado has a quaint, small town feel that you don't see much in SoCal and almost everything closes early.

The San Diego Zoo is famous and has pandas, but the San Diego Wild Animal Park is amazing. Instead of putting animals in cages, they actually re-created the African sarengetti where all the animals roam around. It's like watching The Lion King!

For food/nightlife check out the Gaslamp Quarter. Lots of trendy restaurants and bars, has a Farmer's Market on Sunday, adjacent to Horton Plaza mall and Petco Park.

Just west of Sea World, there's Belmont Park. It's a beachside amusement park with rides, an arcade, more food, and surf shops and souvenir shops.

In Old Town San Diego you can see "the birthplace of California" where Father Junipero Serra established the first settlement and mission. Mission San Diego was later moved, and rebuilt FIVE times, so you can skip that, skip Legoland too. Old Town San Diego still has historic buildings, living history actors, art galleries, a museum, the historic/haunted Whaley House, and a few more shops and restaurants.

Depending on where you're staying and where you're going, San Diego has a great trolley system that visits many (but not all) attractions. It will take you to Downtown, Gaslamp, Old Town, within walking distance of the zoo and Sea World, the stadiums, and lots more shopping and dining. It won't take you to Torrey Pines, the Hotel Del Coronado(accessible by bridge, ferry from downtown then local bus on Coronado island, or the Silver Strand), or the Wild Animal Park so you should rent a car at least a couple days.

Please don't. If you take an excursion to Los Angeles, I can recommend 40 MUCH better ways to waste a day than Universal Studios! I'm not just saying this because they were a red studio, their theme park REALLY sucks hard.

Ive never been to Universal Hollywood, but theme park wise, everything is better in Orlando. For the kids, and adults. Disney, Universal, Sea World, Busch Gardens

Great summary, but I would add the organ concerts every Sunday in Balboa park. Hearing the Spreckels organ is easily worth the trip. It's free, and within spitting distance of the world famous zoo.

I haven't seen the Spreckles Organ in person yet. I think I read somewhere there are museums within Balboa Park too, right? I just didn't go into detail of Balboa Park because I've only been to the San Diego Zoo once and no other part of Balboa. But as far as animal places in SD go, I LOVE the San Diego Wild Animal Park! It's further, but way cooler IMO.

LA has awesome theme parks, but Universal Studios theme park is at the bottom of the barrel.

Indeed, there are. The art museum was the only California venue to host a Maxfield Parrish show a couple of years ago, which was fantastic. I created a business trip to SD just to see it.

Do check out the concerts. The organ is amazing and the concerts good fun.

Sea World tops my bottom list, after age 10 the park is boring. Universal at least at City Walk so adults can drink, kids can go see a movie and there are plenty of good places to eat and shop. But thats me.

There's no shortage of places to eat and drink in LA. It could have changed, but I seem to recall exorbitant parking fees for CityWalk. I think we can do better than that...BUT...dude was asking about San Diego

Agreed, Universal Studios SUCKS! Absolutly the worst theme park in So.Cal. The Mummy ride was mildly entertaining, other than that, the studio tour takes about 30 min, and your left jumping through the mediorcre shows to consume the rest of the day.

Very disappointing.

you know true love is hard to find, sometimes you think you've found true love but then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a bunch of nude people jump out of your closet like a g-dam magic show ready to double team your girlfriend
