Will they ever re-release kung-fu films on Blu-Ray? If not then why?

You're not going to see anything like The Master of the Flying Guillotine. It's not like they're going to take movies you typically see in $4.99 bins and remaster them, no matter how amazing they are =(

There is a double feature Blu-Ray out there with two of the Sister Street Fighter films on it.
Dragon Tiger Gate is available thru Tai Seng. Flashpoint has some martial arts in it... it's available to import. I believe I have seen a Sonny Chiba double feature Blu-Ray out there somewhere. |

Enter the Dragon is the kind of re-release I'm talking about. Not so much the new ones.
Jackie Chan specifically... Why don't wouldn't studios do this? Is Blu-Ray too expensive? Seems like one could do this with very little competition as no companies seem interested. |

The fact, is china is not into blu-ray. Only Hong Kong studio had release some blu-ray, remember that most chinese movie not comes to dvd for a long time till dvd is actually replace most people VHS, they were using VCD and much cheper cost. Also one reason cause blu-ray disk cost too much, and those hong kong blu-ray often charge you 35 as listing price anywhere, most can't afford that. China is holding back, is currently working its own version of cheap hd dvd. I think they just going for download instead.

They don't re-release much kung fu in china anyways. You know, the 70's ones dubbed w/ australian guys etc... When I went to China and HK I expected a wide selection of kung fu! But there's more in China town in any U.S. city, or even tower/virgin record stores!
The point is some of my favorites never got a decent DVD release (in any country) if they were re-leased at all. Sammo Hung movies like Pedicab Driver, Panty Hoes Heros(never released) Ashes of Time (wong-kar wai) or even Drunken Master 2!! I'd be happy if they were released at all let alone on bluray. They're always letterboxed, never animorphic. |

Amazon.co.uk sells quite a few DVDs by Hong Kong Legends/Contender. HKL took some great Kung Fu movies and restored them (video and audio) mostly including the original mono mix and English subtitles.
Quote:
- Shaolin Wooden Men - Snake in the Eagles Shadow - Drunken Master - Ong-Bak - Bruce Lee Anniversary set ... Agreed ![]() |
