Default Spiderwick Chronicles should be announced soon.....

Will it be the first Paramount new title?

It came into theaters around the middle of Feb. Probably about 5-10 days before the announcements. So what do you guys think? I mean, it wasnt a bad title, I would pick it up without a doubt. The reason I say it should be announced soon is because Jumper I believe came out the same day, and was announced this week.

What you guys think?

Its not like they didnt have enough time, because my brother used to work for a DVD distribution center for Sony, and said they usually didnt start creating the discs until about 2-3 weeks after its out of the theaters, meaning the middle of March. Wasnt Cloverfield being talked about being on Blu Ray, but would have to suffer having no extras because it was so late? Well Spiderwick was a month later.

If I had to guess, it will be released on blu, and if its not, the ONLY reason why it wouldnt would be because its a childrens movie

well its not because its a kid's movie on why it wouldnt come out day and date with dvd because Dreamworks i believe might bring out Bee Movie as one of their first releases but i am saying this because it might be too soon when the dvd comes out for it to come out on blu-ray same day maybe like a couple of months later like 1 or 2 months later

It should be announced on DVD soon. As for Blu-Ray, who knows? It's possible.

Paramount will release "The Spiderwick Chronicles" on DVD this June 24th.

No Blu-Ray.

Everyone has to understand that DVD releases are usually announced about 3 months ahead of when they come out, that means we are now into July releases, since Paramount/Universal have not announced anything yet we are getting pretty close to mid to late third quarter or even fourth quarter before they release anything on Blu-Ray.

Even if Blu versions are planned, until they drop the curtain on their Blu plans, none will be announced and discussed

IMHO, if they don't start releasing soon, they'll lose out on a LOT of profits. A good percentage of people who buy a new movie buy it on opening week.

If they don't release Spiderwick on Blu-ray day-and-date with the DVD, they'll lose plenty of sales.

If only logic worked that way with Paramount...

My prediction?

Paramount knows what they're doing.

Their three biggest sellers for the first half of 2008 (Sweeney, There Will Be Blood, and Cloverfield) will hit DVD alone. They know there will not only be impatient Blu owners that will buy these, but also current DVD owners who will go Blu in the near future.

I'm thinking there will be an announcement from Paramount a few weeks after Cloverfield is released, which would put it at mid to late May.

And all three of these titles will be among the first of Paramount's new Blu announcements.

I would hope Paramount would release the Blu-ray day and date with the DVD. I don't see why they can't bring it out considering they have released on Blu-ray before and it shouldn't be that difficult to get this film out on Blu-ray in the summer.

Do you have a link for that?

And I haven heard any NR for July, so I dont know what your talking about. I heard about Gangs of New York and Batman Begins, but those are back titles, not NR.

Last year, I predicted that "Cloverfield" or "The Spiderwick Chronicles" would be Paramount's first new Blu-ray release. When "Cloverfield" was announced for this month, I figured it probably wasn't going to happen. When TSC was announced for June 24 without mention of a Blu-ray release, I began to doubt that as well, although I still wouldn't be surprised to hear them make an announcement for a Blu-ray release around the same time as they release the DVD specs.

As far as a link, I can't really give you one, but the poster was correct in that I've read the release date on two different sites. The Digital Bits was one of them...

As far as announcements goes, a few new titles have been announced for July (like "Mad Men: Season One" and "Batman: Gotham Knights", etc.) and a couple of catalog titles ("Batman Begins", "Robin Hood: Season One", etc.), but I wouldn't be surprised to see some more June titles announced.

Either way, the thread title should probably be changed...

Here's two sites saying the June 24th date, with no other details.

Those arent new releases for July though. A new release would be....10,000 BC, College Road Trip, Bank Job, Horton Hears a Who....Basically anything released at the end of Feb or early March

Actually, "Batman: Gotham Knights" is a brand new release... as is "Mad Men: Season One". Both of them debuting on for the first time on Blu-ray AND DVD. There are also several other smaller studios who have announced new release films for DVD... with one of the titles ("War, Inc.") announced for Blu-ray as well... so yes, dragons lair was correct when he said we are into the July releases already... but I disagree that we are done with June releases as we've had several June releases just announced this past week... and guess what, aside from "Fool's Gold" announced for June 17th, the weeks of June 17 and June 24th are looking pretty bare for Blu-ray... and other than some TV releases and "The Spiderwick Chronicles", "Charlie Bartlett" and the new "Futurama" DTV release, DVD's looking pretty bare as well... so I'd say we're more in the late June/early July releases... so I'd be surprised to not see some more announcements for June 17, June 24, and July 1.

However, as dragons lair also said, "The Spiderwick Chronicles" has already been announced for DVD on June 24th... with no mention of a Blu-ray release. Now, it's possible that Paramount is planning a release, but wanted to wait until some other titles were far enough along that they could issue a press release detailing a handful of catalog titles (or formerly HD DVD exclusives) as well, and simply left it out... and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if this is what is happening, and we see it released D&D, but things (at this moment) aren't looking too good for it...
