Default Sopranos - The Complete Series

Since the sixth season is possibly the last season for 'The Sopranos', do you think they will release a complete series boxset on Blu-Ray?

It's quite obvious that HBO will release a complete series boxset on the DVD format as they've done it with 'Sex in the City' and 'Six Feet Under'.

Myself, I disliked the packaging design for 'The Sopranos - Season 6, Part 1' on Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. It just don't look right... and feel quite clunky.

Just thought I'll bring the subject up here. I don't own any of the Sopranos on the DVD format, but if the whole series is released onto the BD format... I definitely will consider it.

Oh... misleading bump.

But no, I don't think there is anything new to report really.

There was a rumor that came up in the fall saying that we might actually see the complete series this year but... you know how rumors are..

I would love this set. Hopefully all the seasons would look and sound like the Season 6 releases (not the inferior season 1).

And of course it would be a great excuse to revisit the Sopranos in its entirety.

Agreed. Very annoying. At least put a question mark after the thread title.

Whatever this would cost I couldnt afford it. The Soprano disks were always priced like HBO was paying Tony some vigorish.

I just bought the first season from BB for $19.99+tax with the blu ray upgrade coupon. I'm happy with the price, but I'm not happy that only seasons 1 and six are available on blu ray. What's the hold up HBO?

I read somewhere maybe around these forums where someone contact HBO customer service in Europe and one of the workers replied with it being work in progress. I also heard around some forums that it is rumored to be due out around Fall 2012. Knowing that there will be a box set due to the dvd box set I can only imagine how much its going to cost for the blu. I have been waiting for a box set for a while now and not buying the blus out when they have been on sale. There better be a complete series collectors edition or something for this wait.

Default DVD Box Set Price Drop

Amazon has dropped the price of the DVD Box Set to $125. Could this be an inventory clearing move in anticipation for the Blu-Ray Box set?

I'd be really surprised if seasons 2 - 5 are released on blu at any point in time, it's been over 3 years now since they released season 1. I don't think HBO sees much of a market where people will repurchase the entire series again.

There's an amazing price on the DVD complete boxset on amazon right now and i'm just itching to get!

But again like other people have said is it worth it to buy it now? Is the blu-ray version ever gonna come out?

I don't understand why HBO just didn't release each season separately one year at a time, like Star Trek: TNG.

Season 1 of The Sopranos looks like ass on DVD. The rest of the series looks good for 480 lines. Was season 1 definitely shot on 35mm? Obviously, the DVDs were authored from 480 (or 720?) line digibetas. In any case, what really needs to be done for future viewers are brand-new 4K scans of the 35mm negatives. Whether those masters would be used for 1080p formats, ie. Blu-ray/HDTV, that's hard to say. But seeing as Sony are forward-looking with the 4K scans of Breaking Bad, it would seem prudent that HBO did likewise for The Sopranos.

Sony 4K the hell out of everything. They have 4K scans of movies the vast majority of people have never heard of. So it's far from sure that HBO will do the same. It seems to me that other studios only scan 4K if there is a brand new restoration of movies, meaning that we will never see 4K of the lower end movies that have 2K masters.
