Default Has HDD finally seen the MPEG-2 light?

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/gridirongang.html

No more Mpeg-2 has that griity look?
Could this just be yet another sign that the BD train has picked up so much steam that even HDD is jumping on board.

BTW...are Gridiron Gang and Courage under Fire both really 4/5's....or do we go with 4.5/5?

Yes this is true about MPEG2 has finally get the light against VC-1

no body has mentioned this begining from Tears of sun ,including kindgdom heaven, black hawk down, Buena vista titles ,most of Fox titles coded as MPEG2 ,Paramount titles including MI3 and lionsgate recent title The descent shows gorgeous Picture Quality. what about Superman returns if it is done using as mpeg2 codec i'm sure it will superceded HD-dvd version. But someone should asked Warner Bros about that? In my opinion it is better for warner not issuing titles like superman returns in Blu-ray if it is not going to do it correctly and using the latest capability of BD-50.

Notice that a new anti-MPEG-2 campaign has begun on FUD.com?

Clockwork.

The Descent Blu-Ray disc is coded in AVC not MPEG 2.

Superman Returns is on BD50. But even then, Warner did not give the BD version the TrueHD track HD-DVD got. Neither version got the behind the scenes videos shot in HD. Seems like they are already looking to double dip there.

Four titles look poor IMO on Blu-Ray.

-House of flying daggers
-Hitch
-Punisher
-Fifth Element.

Everything is else is good, Great or perfect.

Sony must have replaced the old copies of TFE with new and improved versions. I say that because after watching about 40 mins worth in Magnolia (via Panasonic player and 65" Panasonic 1080P Plasma), I only found that you could see dirt from the print. The images were really sharp. After seeing that (I stayed away from that title before because of all the terrible news about it), I purchased it. I would show that title off in a heartbeat (but I would warn about the dirt spot that pop up on the print).

I totally agree about the other three titles you listed, Brian. BTW, does your Best Buy have a Magnolia inside? If so, are they using a newer copy of TFE on one of their Blu-ray players (unwrapped within the last 2 months)?

Brian, your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find out if the current Fifth Element copies are better than the one you bought long time ago. This message will self-destruct in 5 secs.

I can believe it.

There's literally no depths to what I know can happen in that place.

Yup I saw those shots as well, I even saw Josh Zyber defend BD/MPEG-2, it is getting rediculous, the more positives BD has the more the HD DVD zealots go out and try to bad mouth BD.

For the record the pictures that the guy showed must have been from some other source as none of my BDs exhibit this type of smearing. Not even broadcast HD has this.

My Setup: Sony 46" X series, Samsung BD player w/latest fw, Pioneer VSX-AX2AS AV receiver. Not the best in the world, and I still can't see the smearing. The only thing I see is 60fps judder, but I eventually got used to it, when Sony release an ES line player I will be first in the queue to buy it.

Then watch as the thread is closed and deleted before you hit submit
