Default Doing what Disney does best, over doing Sequels

Even before High School Musical 3: Senior Year hits movie theaters on October 24, Disney Channel is starting work on High School Musical 4, says The Hollywood Reporter.

"We are writing 'High School Musical 4,' " Disney Channel Worldwide president Rich Ross confirmed Tuesday. It's likely to be a TV movie unlike "High School Musical 3," though that could change.

The news comes as the stars of the two smash hit TV movies are preparing for production on the third installment of the series, which will begin filming in two weeks in Utah. There's no word on whether the cast and behind-the-scenes talent will gather again for "HSM4," though some characters introduced in the third go-round likely will star in the fourth.

"Are we going to have all the cast back? Probably not," Ross said. "Will we have some of them? I hope so."

Disney does many things very well. With that being said, Disney also makes choices some people don't like.

Disney has been doing sequels for a long time. Most of the time, their sequels are Straight-To-Video. Personally, I'm okay with that. I never watch them, but many people do. They know how to make money....

As befuddling as it is to me that they continue these STV sequels, I know they're probably successful!

As long as it has High School Musical branded all over it its golden. No matter what. While I absolutely can not stand HSM its definitely a cash cow that disney wont stop milking anytime soon.

Another HSM? Geez. Just kill the stupid franchise already. Just because it can make money, doesn't mean it should.

Just think of how their going to name this one: "High School Musical 4: First Year At College"

High School Musical 3 will feature younger characters, who will continue the franchise as Zac Efron will almost 100% not return after 3. He talked about it on TRL I think. Either way these movies are so cheesy and should stop.

Disney sequels, let's face it, are pretty awful. However, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride is not only excellent, but is almost as good as the original. I've only seen one other Disney sequel and that was The Fox and the Hound 2, which was quite decent; had nice animation (a little too cartoony though) and an okay story with good music, although it was way too childish with the original being quite a serious movie.

Have they ever done a prequel? You know, like the Star Wars saga episodes I, II and III.

True.
If it wasnt making Disney sooooooomuch Money they wouldnt be doing it. As Men we dont want see these kinds of films(just the naked pics leaked by zealous ex-boyfriends ) Disney has found a niche with HSM and Hannah Montana and they will ride that wave til the next big thing.

Miley Cyrus has the makings of the next "Brittany Spears" type as far as the music sensation, pop star teen demeanor. Brittany grew through the Mickey Mouse Club into what she was(nothing good about her today)

Its been a cycle, It was Brittany, then Hillary Duff and now Miley Cyrus, although WB did steal some of the fame with the infamous Olsen twins during the late 90s, early 2000's

The Lion King 1½ is an ingenious sequel that retells the original film's story from the perspective of best pals Timon the meerkat (voiced by Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa the warthog (Ernie Sabella). Anyone who has wondered how this odd couple met will find out here, beginning with Timon's flight from home following disgrace and his chance encounter with the sweet but lonely Pumbaa. With the arrival of young Simba (Shaun Flemming), The Lion King's familiar tale is reborn via a fresh angle, fleshed out by returning characters Rafiki the wise monkey (Robert Guillaume), Shenzi (Whoopi Goldberg), and Simba's love interest, Nala (Moira Kelly). While the retooled narrative proves a novel experience, The Lion King 1½ is really a vehicle for voice actors Lane and Sabella, whose comic performances are shamelessly, broadly funny. Matthew Broderick, Julie Kavner, and Jerry Stiller are also in the vocal cast. --Tom Keogh

Yep, they've done a few prequels. As already mentioned, The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata; recently renamed "The Lion King 1 1/2".

As well as Aladdin, it's sequel "Aladdin: The Return of Jafar" (which in my opinion, is a putrid movie) and the prequel "Aladdin and the King of Thieves"; Beauty and the Beast, its sequel "Belle's Magical World" (which was nothing more than a compilation of four surviving episodes of a failed Beauty and the Beast TV series) and "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas"; as well as The Little Mermaid, its sequel "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" and the upcoming prequel, "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning" to be released this year.
