Thanks for the advice on the previous "I need expert advice" thread. I went out shopping around and ended up settling on the following for now - this is my first "real" surround sound system. Basically I just want to know that the price I paid I didn't get ripped off. They sound pretty great to me. We are going to start saving for a much better system for the future (see other thread).
Yamaha HTR-6030 Receiver Yamaha YST-SW012 Subwoofer I'm not sure what model the 5 speakers are, but they are the same color and similiar finish as the subwoofer. I got it all from from Best Buy for $259.99 and have connected to my PS3 with an optical cable (15.99) and used 18 gauge speaker wire to connect to the rest of the speakers. |

for 260 thats pretty good. I would definitely get good speaker wire and when you're ready to upgrade start with good speakers before getting a new receiver

Get yourself a good speaker system: Polk, Boston, KEF, even Bose if your budget permits. Next get yourself an A/V receiver with HDMI switching. Yes it is going to be a little bit more money now but it will be worth it when you won't have to buy one a year down the road. Even if your on a budget it'd would be worth paying extra now and not having to redo everything down the road. |

Amen to that, alot of home theater systems now have great sound for the price. As long as you enjoy it, don't sweat it. If you compare the picture of your TV and the sound of your system to the local movie theater, I bet you are alot happier with what is in your home compared to the theater. Plus, you get to sit on your couch and relax.
"IF" you have the money to upgrade like some audio nuts, I totally see their point but if you are on a budget, you did okay. Enjoy it. Take the money you saved and buy some more movies. ![]() |

Yeah, there are several great recievers out there for just a little bit more than what you paid. But it's not a bad system. I'm using an older Sony system, so don't worry about it right away.

I agree with a few of the previous posters that said if it makes you happy, then you got a great deal. When spending someone elses money its always easy to be critical about what someone else bought. If what you got was within your budget then more power too you. Its better than going out and putting yourself further in debt just trying to keep up with the joneses. I hope you enjoy every minute of your system
