Default Adobe Acrobat: Pdf

I need some help from anyone who knows adobe acrobat.

I want Adobe to take two dates in different fields and then subtract them to give me the number the days in between.

For example, one field has 8/10/2008 and the other field has 8/11/2008 in it. Adobe would automatically take those two dates, make its calculations, and then put "1" in another field.

Thanks...

+1 this really sounds like Excel not acrobat. isn't Adobe Acrobat just for reading and editing PDF files.

EDIT: this should really be off topic or maybe not even on this forum??

+1 for Excel here.

Calculate the number of days between two dates
To do this task, use the subtraction (-) operator or the NETWORKDAYS function.

If the NETWORKDAYS function is not available, install and load the Analysis ToolPak add-in.

How?

On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
In the Add-Ins available list, select the Analysis ToolPak box, and then click OK.
If necessary, follow the instructions in the setup program.
Example
The example may be easier to understand if you copy it to a blank worksheet.

How to copy an example

Create a blank workbook or worksheet.
Select the example in the Help topic.
Note Do not select the row or column headers.

Selecting an example from Help

Press CTRL+C.
In the worksheet, select cell A1, and press CTRL+V.
To switch between viewing the results and viewing the formulas that return the results, press CTRL+` (grave accent), or on the Tools menu, point to Formula Auditing, and then click Formula Auditing Mode.

Date
6/8/2007
6/20/2007
Formula Description
=A3-A2 Days between the two dates (12)
=NETWORKDAYS(A2,A3) Weekdays between the two dates (9)

Note To view the dates as numbers, select the cell and click Cells on the Format menu. Click the Number tab, and then click Number in the Category box.

I'm too lazy to type, got that from search the excel help in the program.

You can use this script to do what you require:

IsoDate2Num(Date[0]) - IsoDate2Num(DateNeeded[0])

Where Date[0] is your first date field and Dateneeded[0] is your second date field.

Add the script to the appropiate result field.

Hope this helps.

Thank you..Ispoke...and thanks to everyone here, too, for lending a helping a hand. The knowledge base of this group is enormous...regardless of whether it's electronics, movies, games, or softwares...

Danaya...goodness....I wonder sometimes if you must be the go-to-guy for Excel in your neighborhood...lol...

Ispoke, the earlier question is actually one step in a process I'm planning on doing. This is actually what I'm trying to do on Adobe Acrobat with the following fields:

Field one: Earlier date
Field two: Later date
Field three: 100
Field four: 5
Field five: The field that would hold the final result of the arithmetics

(Field three / field four) * (Field two - Field one)

(field three divided by field four) multiplied by (field two less field one)

I hope it can be done on Adobe...

I think this can be done with InDesign and then generate a interactive PDF from that.

I use LiveCycle Designer for my forms.

Secret - Just add to the formula for the required math:

(IsoDate2Num(Field2[0]) - IsoDate2Num(Field1[0]))* (Field3[0]/Field4[0])

Add above script to Feild5

Should do the trick

Thanks Chaka, Ispoke... I'll give this a try on Monday...hope it works...wonder what the [0] is for though. I hope it works with any date format, though I'm going to use DD/MM/YYYY format.

Uhm, lol, well, since you seem to know so much about Adobe...I'm wondering if you can make a conditional field where an answer to one field (a combo box) would automatically bring up a matching answer in another combo box.

For instance, one combo box might have the first names of the people you know. The second combo box will have the last names of the same people. If you select a first name in the first combo box, the matching last name will autmatically pop up.

for everyone...enjoy...

When you enter the JavaScript, do you have to start off with the "=" sign as you do with Excel?

Would it be =(IsoDate2Num...)

or do you just jump in and (IsoDate2Num...)???

Sorry, but my above examples are based on using FormCalc and not Javascript.

Javascript does not support the 'IsoDate2Num' function and therefore your approach would have to be somewhat different when using Javascript.

Also should have added that if you go Here then you will find many application guides on using Javascript with the various versions of Adobe Acrobat.

Hopefully they will provide the information you need

Okay, I'll check out the link right now...maybe it's best if I just try to install FormCalc or enable it somehow...that would probably be easier...

What's important is that the date format is dd / mm / yyyy...

It's very helpful actually. I'm doing alot with PDF now. And it's really fun. I'm using pure JavaScript and using getField, Math.round, setFieldValue functions all over the place...Javascript is so versatile...

I'd like a site that would explain more fully these things though. So far, I just gather small bits here and there from one site or another and do reverse engineering....
