But the PS3 has no effect on BD sales...

That must mean there are whole lot of standalones and VAIO PCs out there... Sony really did a good job at making sure people know that the PS3 plays blu-ray movies. I talk to many customers a day and lots of them are using the PS3 for BD playback, many of them also plan on buying a standalone when prices drop some more.

Those numbers are only going to get bigger as more and more ps3's are sold.

“We are looking forward to this pivotal year and the ultimate establishment of Blu-ray as the high-definition packaged media standard. In fact, Blu-ray sales performance surpassed HD-DVD for the first time the week of December 24 and did so by an impressive 20 per cent. What’s more, by the end of the first quarter our research shows the sales gap widening to Blu-ray outselling HD DVD by a 3.5-to-1 ratio,” noted Mike Dunn, President Worldwide, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. “We remain extremely encouraged by the growth in sales and player penetration and are fully committed to creating the most compelling products possible and to the continued pioneering development of BD with our partners.”
I think by March, Sony CE will be making lots and lots of PS3s. Wonder what the ratio will be then.

The flip side is the PS3 definately needs more good games. I bought mine mostly for BD playback NOW, but hope more games come out on it in the future.

Thats why I bought mine... and I fully agree, they could stand for some decent games (have you downloaded the free playable GT demo yet? the graphics are sweet, and the physics package is damn good as well)

But as I said, I got it cause it was one of the least expensive BD players, being a game system was just a bonus!

I imported Motorstorm (because PS3 games are region-free) and it's awesome. That'll be a killer-app when it's released in February along with Virtua Fighter 5 and ES: Oblivion (which we already know is great since it was released for 360 and the PC).

I agree...I bought the PS3 cuz of all the cutting edge hardware. It would suck if they didn't put out any games that utilizes all that computing power.

The problem with VF5 is that it’s also going to be released on the 360.

I know, but that's not really a "problem" is it? More people get to enjoy it. Anyway, it comes out for the PS3 a couple months ahead so for those who can't wait (like Rainbow Six Vegas coming out a couple months ahead for the 360)...
