Default PS3 Resuming Capability HELP!!!

I know the latest update was able to give the PS3 the ability to resume watching a dvd after it has been ejected etc. Is that BD too? Mine is not doing that with the discs that I have tried. Is there a setting? Please advise

I have not tried it on a DVD yet. However, I was watching Run Lola Run today and the resume feature did NOT work.

It is on only "some" movies it has to be built into the disk software (kinda like the little pic on sony BD for ps3) just like a DVD, So we will probably see this feature on more BD now that it is a known feature for the best selling BD player.

It only works with BDs that has no BD-J ap. For BD-J discs, the BD-J ap will take care of the resume function through bookmarking although some/most BD-J discs DO NOT have this bookmarking function.

Resume play also works with DVDs.

it supposedly works if you press STOP then EJECT. If you EJECT the movie without stopping it, it does not work.

You don't have to remember at all. If you use it on discs that work and the next time you put the disc in, it'll go to the point at which you stopped the last time as this data is stored in the HDD. If the disc is the one that doesn't work, it'll just go straight to the menu.

This feature is an extra that doesn't really break the bank. Remember also that you're part of the early adopter phase. Later on when BD-J discs and more powerful BD players are prevalent, studios will use the bookmarking feature even more.

Make sure to "Quit Playback" before shutting down or ejecting, so it has time to store the position. I have yet to see a DVD/BD (excluding BD Java titles) that it DOESN'T work on.

It worked on Kingdom of Heaven and August Rush for me -- but it did NOT work on Live Free Die Hard. All were BR versions.

How do you do bookmarks on a Blu Ray?

I have yet to Quit Playback, I just shut the system off, and it's worked fine for me. I have yet to find a movie that doesn't work, although I have no idea if my movies should work or not.

All Warner titles should work, at least until they start using BD-J.

On The Water Horse (Sony title), the green button adds a bookmark and the yellow button lets you view the bookmarks. I can't remember if it's the same on other Sony titles or not.

I've been keeping a list of which of my BDs work with Resume Play (non-bookmarking), once I have enough titles listed I'll name a few.

Is there a easy way to tell if a BD uses the BD-J app or not? From what I can tell, BD-J's have their own animated display bar (whcih pops up when using Fast Forward, for example)...

I have a question about how this resume feature works.

The other day I was watching a TV show DVD in my PS3. I ejected it and put in another DVD for a while. Then later on I put that first DVD back in and it resumed from the point that it had left off.

I am wondering, is this some kind of temporary memory? I mean, if I don't put that disc back in after a certain number of days, will these settings just reset? Does the system only have the capacity to remember the places of a few discs, or will it store info on many, many discs over an indefinate period of time?

The reason I ask is this... I actually found it a little odd and surprising that the PS3 picked up where the one disc had left off after I removed it from the machine and had watched another disc in it. In this particular case, it worked well for me since it was my intention to pick up where I had left off previously.

However, my concern is that what happens if I put in a DVD now, only watch it part way through, eject it, then 6 months from now I pull out that same movie or TV show disc, and put it in the machine? Will it pick up where it last left off? Or will it load as if it was being put in the machine for the first time? If it picks up where it last left off, that will actually upset me, because by that time I will have likely forgotten about the time that I last used the disc, and will just be confused and find it jarring that the movie is starting up in the middle. I really hope this feature has some kind of limitations, because if it remembers this stuff indefinately, that's just going to be annoying.

If you use the options button (triangle?) the menu should show an option like "play from the beginning". Edit: Of course, if it's a really long time before you play it again, you may forget that you had watched part of it already. Not sure if there is a way to clear the information stored or not. I thought the BD utility might handle that sort of thing but I don't think I've seen anything listed under it yet.

How about the option to turn that damn thing off?!?!?!?! Anybody know if it's possible? I friggin HATE this stupid resume feature, but can't find a way to avoid it!!! I can't seem to find an option in the XMB or the on-screen menu. If I'm putting in a disc, I am fully intending to WATCH IT FROM THE BEGINNING... ALWAYS! The movies are meant to be watched in a linear manner from start to finish without interruption. If it happens to get interrupted, I will start it over next time I sit down to finish it.
