Hi
I have been searching everywhere for the answer to the title above & could not find any, i did find a thread which mentioned the opposite ie US PS3 working in UK 220v sustem. I have been trying various other websites & found a statement from Wikipedia. Please can someone tell me if the information by wiki is correct or not. I will be moving to Canada & would appreciate the help. Universal power supply The console has a universal power unit built in which makes a 120 V PlayStation 3 suitable in a 240 V region. The power supply can operate on both 60 Hz and 50 Hz power grids. It uses a standard C14 IEC connector and a C13 power cord appropriate for the region being used in. Some consoles, however, read 220v~240v 1.8a which are not universal. The power supply is capable of delivering approximately 380W, although the PS3 has never been measured using this much energy. |

If the unit has a 200-240V AC power supply, then you could buy a seperate 120V AC to 230V transformer at a local electrical store. Stores such as Maplin in the UK sell these transformers for use with foreign electrical equipment. There should be similar stores selling these transformers in Canada.
NOTE This post releates to electrical transformers... not Michael bay's Transformers... so if you have searched for it, this is not what you ar looking for!!! If you don't like this solution, (and if your are competent) you could buy a bust PS3 on eBay (listed as for spares or repair) and rob the PSU out of this and put it in the Singapore unit, I would imagine it would fit with a minor amount of fiddling about. |

Everywhere I've checked online states that people have tested and the PSUs are universal. That said, it has previously been from 110V country PS3s being used in 240V countries. But yes, they are universal. Photos:

I would buy a converter just to be sure.
You'll know instantly if it's not universal if when you plug it in you hear a pop and a puff of smoke comes out. |
