Default PS3 Dual Video Out

For the sake of the girlfriend I was trying to have a choice for how to watch/play the PS3 in our setup. I wanted to be able to have it(PS3) output video through both the HDMI cable to Receiver and the component video cable direct to TV, but with playing with the settings, I could only get one or the other.

The reason for this, she doesn't like the receiver being on and it is complicated on the pioneer receiver to turn the HDMI into pass through mode.

Any insight into this would be great. Thanks.

Apart from changing the settings on the PS3 EVERYTIME, you can't switch between the two sources. Best bet is to get a Harmony remote that can switch it at the touch of a button THOUGH THE HARMONY DOES NOT CONTROL THE PS3.

Even when you use the IR converter?

To OP, instead of changing the PS3 settings, maybe you can try to use your receiver to output both from HDMI and and component at the same time?

Hmmm, I must check this with my receiver when I get home later.

the only thing it really cant do is turn the ps3 on and off.

op: video cannot be output from two different types of cables at the same time. i use the component when i dont want the surround on. it only takes a moment to switch the setting

The idea is not to change the PS3 settings. It's to make it easier for his GF to get the receiver to change the HDMI multichannel input. Tap once to turn on the TV and set it to the right HDMI input WHILE setting the receiver to the right HDMI and apply multichnannel input. Then using the Bluetooth remote, use that to control the movie.

I don't have the Harmony nor the converter but I don't think the Harmony has the PS button as well as SELECT and START. I don't even know if the Harmony has the Pop-up Menu button or the Red, Green, Yellow and Blue buttons.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping for a way to output via both cables, wonder why it doesn't allow it? Or if it wasn't such an embedded feature in the AV receiver, I could have my Harmony just switch it to an HDMI pass through. Sometimes life is simple, sometimes not.

The Harmony remotes when using an IR adapter, such as the NYKO Blu Wave Remote, has all functions except for the PS button. However, due to the design of the XMB for settings, I don't think the Harmony could perform advance macro commands even if it had PS button functionality. Changing of actual PS3 settings would still have to be done by hand.

I think you're out of luck on this one. Too bad about your girlfriend.
