Default Sony XBR or Samsung LNT4071

Hello friends, looking to get a second HDTV and have settled on one of these two. I see a lot of talk about the Sony XBR's here but not much on the Samsung LNT. Both have the 120hz motion feature and both look spectacular to me. Any thoughts on which one you think is better? Both look to have around the same price for the 40" which is what i'm looking at.

I used to be a fan of the Sammy 4071 but the refresh rate (8ms) isn't fast enough to make the "AutoMotion" feature work correctly. Their new A650's have corrected that problem with a 4ms refresh rate and it looks fantastic.

In my opinion, if your budget limits you to the 4071 or the XBR, I'd go with the XBR. If you can afford a few hundred more, I recommend the Samsung 40" A650.

You're doing yourself a disservice by sticking with LCD TVs. Check out the plasma TVs (especially those by Pioneer and Panasonic) in your budget range; odds are you'll get a much better picture than if you went with LCD.

Thanks for your input. In looking at them to me the LCD looked better and i really like that 120hz motion feature, the tv's that feature that just stand out to me.

Beware of iffy store setups. Plasmas don't have motion features, 'cause they don't need it. Ask to see a competently set up plasma TV... :-)

I would pick PN-58A550 but no-one agrees with what the dynamic ratio some say 20,000 others 1,000,000:1

but after seeing bad blu-ray on it i'm not sure i want it now

XBR

Then again, I am biased.

Many here on BD.com are fan of plasma. I know they look amazing and the PQ is just absoluately great; however, I am just not exactly sold on the improvement on the technology about the burn-in and durability yet.

Maybe I will get a plasma after I finish with my XBR. But right now, I'd still go for LCD.

Go with the Sony. Only other that comes close is Toshiba Cinama Series. These two are true. If I were going plasma definitely Pioneer. These have the truest blacks of any and this is important.

I agree with the first reply in going with the 6 series. Prices on amazon has dropped like crazy in the past few days. I personally have it and love it. Don't mind the arguements that it is red. You really can't tell and if you went to BB thinking to find a "red" TV you won't find it.

Default Plasmas are good

I used to hate Plasma TV's; but they go all the new ones in at work, and they look amazing. The new Samsung 6-series LCD's are the way to go if your willing to spend a bit more; but I would really consider a Plasma prior to buying one of the TVs your looking at. ...although there was a time when I really loved the XBR.

Ok the pics really don't do it justice. All are blurays and the last one is kinda blurry but, it's taken from AVP:R. I put it on there just to give an idea of what the blacks kinda look like

Oh yeah the bezel isn't really that red. It just appears that way because of the flash. It is actually black and like maybe 1/2-3/4in from the bottom it starts to fade to a dark red.

The samsung 71series has problems with ghosting and artifacting when 120hz is on high as well as a glossy screen and awesome touch sensitive power button the xbr4/5s 120hz seems to work better and provide slightly better black levels through out they are both good choices but xbr4 is my pick although the Sam 7 and 6 series improves greatly on the above mentioned issuses staring at all 4 for more than 5 hours a day every day I still like the xbr even though it doesn't have 4 ms response time
