Most shows on Cable-HD Dissappoint me cause i know the movie looks that much better on BD and especially in 1080p vs 720p/1080i. Anyways still good find.

don't get TNT-HD
but TBS-HD stretches and zooms everything to fill the screen and makes things look horrible! does TNT-HD do that also?

TNT has done a decent job with some films. I remember the Lord of the Rings films didn't look too bad. Not BD, but any means, but definitely better than standard.

TNT is horrible. You never know if you are going to get a real HD movie/show or a horrible stretch job. I really wish they would pillar box 4:3 content.

and stop zooming 16:9 to fill the screen...

the hardest thing to explain to someone who's new to HD and blu-ray, etc, is to explain the black bars and why your screen isn't filled up and why you don't want it to be with lots of programs/movies...aspect ratio, anamorphic, etc, even makes my head hurt

I think they had Jurassic Park on TNT HD before didn't they, or maybe another cable channel like TBS? And I remember turning it on and thinking "this is HD?" I think it was just all stretched out, didn't look very good. And this was my favorite movie as a kid, saw it in the theater 5 times, so I was pretty bummed.

besides all the commercials, usually TNT is pretty good for hd. It usually looks better than hbo hd with my cable.

Thumbs down

Regardless of HD quality, the adverts taking 1/4 to 1/3 of the screen during programming is annoying and unacceptable--and worse when it's animated. I refuse to watch it.

I know, thank you for mentioning this. Recently I saw :ALIENS-HD" and it looked like total junk. I am glad someone else notices this.

It will be interesting to see if they actually have a new HD transfer of the film. There was a 1035i MUZE LD that came out in Japan back in the 90's, so at some point there was an HD transfer done. Knowing Universal no one has touched it since then.

Fortunately, Spielberg edited the entire movie on film first. If Universal is smart like MGM they'll give the film to DTS Images and have John Lowry scrub the film clean and DTS re-master the audio. Jurassic Park could be reference material if they do it right. The computer I am writing this on now could probably render Jurassic's VFX in one day max.
