Default What do you think about Warner Total HD?

Warner Total HD

Personally I hate double sided media. The sooner Universal goes BD the sooner we can rid ourselves of crappy double sided media. What is it with Warner by the way, they screw up their formats constantly. Anyone own the Matrix on Warner DVD. Can DVD cases get any worse?

I'm not looking forward to it.

I hope 'The Departed' will not be packed in that... thing.

These discs will most likely cost a good deal more at the consumer level. I can't have that...not at the rate I buy these things.

Thumbs down

I think it is only going to confuse consumers even more. Think about going in to a store and you don't know a thing about the formats and the clerk goes, we got HD DVD players, BD players and LG's combo player. For HD DVD you have the following studio support and for BD you have the following studio support, accept for Warner who are supporting both on a format called THD. If I would have known this when I entered the HD scene I would have been 10 times more confused than I was!

I would rather have Warner and LG picking sides than confusing us (if possible) even more. Why would I pay more for a disc when I don't have use for half of the content on it (if they are charging 4$ more per DVD combo disc THD is going to be 8$ ore more), I was really happy that the BD side didn't have the totally stupid DVD combo discs and now they serve us with this? Do us a favor and just drop out of the format war and wait for a clear cut winner and then join us again Warner!

It will cost more than a BD disc, so what's the point, I don't ever plan on owning HD DVD, and even if I did, why would I need two copies of the same movie.

Oh well it will only be for a short time. I assume these will be flippers? HD-DVD on one side BD on the other. Things are getting bad if even the fanboys are either going blu ray or back to DVD

Not too happy myself, they'll cost more at the consumer level, and if it's the only release method, going to be another title I won't buy since, well. I don't want to pay extra for a format I'm not using.

Feels more like a blow "for DVD" in the format war imo, with no clear cut successor, the winner is the status quo, but whatever . Will see how this year turns out with far the more economical players coming out [aside from the PS3].

I hate the idea, I can't see studios encoding the video twice, so we will be crippling the dual layer BD part to a max of 30G, unless the studio bean counters realize that its only a little step down to 25G where they can save even more money by pressing only a single layer BD part.... New technology which places a lower artificial limit on better quality existing technology... that what I call and advancement...
NOT!

Delay and stop gap. Needless.

I hate any and all combo discs and will continue to avoid all of them like the plague as will many others.

There's no point in making concessions like these to help keep an inferior technology alive (HD-DVD.)

Forget about it.

Well, here's a twist: What if it makes Universal go neutral? I'd sure as hell go with it to get some tasty Universal titles (Casino, JP, old monster movies). Think about it, isn't it quite interesting that Universal said they wouldn't make any announcements the same day Warner unvieled the disc?

Eh, eh, know what I mean, know what I mean?

Thumbs down Stupid Idea

What are they thinking? The cost will drive consumers away. Dual-sided discs will probably be more fragile and may have a high return rate.

I have always hated flippers. I like the label and I like being able to easily see how to load it in the player.

Now what are retailers and rental stores going to do? (Have 3 sections for HD discs - BD, HD-DVD, and Dual-Disc?)

Very bad idea.

Dual disc = THD (continued with Jim L's naming conventions)

reading between the lines, no one would bother to publish on HD-DVD alone
(don't you just hate having to explane a joke!?!)

Actually, that was a case of not reading at all . Let alone between the lines.

I read your statement as BluRay and HD-DVD, stupid lack of caffeine in the morning. Quite true I suspect, just odd bit with what I suspect a few titles will be "only" available on their flippers.

I'm more pissed off that the packaging is ugly and we will probably have to pay much more for this disc. I hope they don't put titles like the Matrix on these discs... I would probably wait for HD-DVD to die off and wait for the single BD double dip version.
