Default Speakers to upgrade first?

Just purchased an Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System and Onkyo 605 for $600. I'd like to eventually upgrade some of the speakers, so my question is which ones would everyone recommend doing first? i.e. front, center, sub-woofer etc.

Default Center

About 50% of the sound emits from the center channel.

Upgrade your fronts first... that way you can run it without a center channel and still have surround capability and stereo capability. Then get a center to match your fronts. Then add the surrounds and subwoofer.

Fronts first for sure then the matching center. This gives you the advantage of better sound when listening to music.

Yup, agreed with the others, center then fronts, then rears. Subwoofer is important but it's lower on the foodchain.

Outdoor speakers first......

No... of course the center/Fronts, then depending on what sub/surrounds you have, but for that kit, I'd upgrade the sub, then surrounds

Save your money a little longer and upgrade center and both mains at the same time, most of you sound comes out these three speakers and you want to match driver types and sizes. You should also buy the same brand for all three.

If music is important to you then go with the two main front speakers first. Even if movies are more important, the center speaker should really follow after you've decided on the two front speakers. It is important all three speakers in the front are from the same line and timbre-matched.

Yes. My recommendation is to upgrade the centre and both mains at the same time because these should be matched for the optimum performance. For example, if voice change from L to C to R and if the speakers are not matched, it could sound awkward.

ding ding ding, we have a winner... most of your sound comes from the front speakers, so to create and accurate soundstage with left to right pans, the Left, Right, and Center should be timbre matched and from the same series of speakers.

That being said, if you can't afford to upgrade all 3 at once (to buy out of your initial price range, which is AWESOME ) then I'd go Left and Right first, followed by the center channel. If you have test tones or auto setup, you will be able to help out some with the volume differences, but it won't be perfect. Ought to get you through until you can get the matching center.
