Default strange speakers

Most have heard about the Nautilus Shells, but some of these are just "bizarre" I personally like the Big and Little Horns, the cost of production must be pretty high, and they must weigh a good bit!

That 8' tall Line array is just Stoopid. At what point does that just become impractical - especially at $80K and 1700 lbs.

The pictured ones had a nice Mapa Burl thing going on though.

Wow, the only practical speakers there are the North ones, although I don't think I wouls spring the extra money to get ones made out of marble. That's just me. But at any rate, I'm happy with my inexpensive Sony system. The bookshelf speakers are only 14 lbs each. That's enough weight.

I like the Nearfield's, Line arrays are a favorite of mine since the Infinity IRS V's and the Genesis 1.1's. People compromise when it comes to sound. I have a rather small space compared to some people, but when I put a theater in it - it was a no compromise situation as far as audio quality was concerened (meaning the best audio that I could get for the money that I had). To quote Jerry from the AvRevforum " you bring a lot of heat to a small place!"

If I'm going to have BD, my first and formost thing is to have speakers that can reproduce the sources potential dynamic range and the power to handle the dynamic peaks. Codecs and such are secondary - what good is the codec if the speakers can't faithfully and accurately reproduce the given sound? Top notch source with below par speakers and amplification will give you subpar sound. I would (sonically) put Fosgate's all tube analog processor, Krell poweramps, and B&W 800 series speakers with a BD through the analog multi-channel inputs up against a PS3, Onkyo 805, and Klipsch Synergy speakers anyday - and the analog setup would win! Now change that to an Integra 9.8, Krell amplification and the same speakers with HDMI 1.3 for the BD player - then things change a bit (pun intented).

We need to look at things as a system instead of just looking at a new technology - BD will not make a bad system sound better - in fact, it just may make you realize just how bad your sound really is - which is actually a good thing.

Well put..... New speakers have made listening to some of my older live-concert downloads very difficult. My speakers even pull out obvious flaws in studio recorded, commercially produced CDs !

Movie quote comes to mind:

"Here's an idea. Why don't you just give me all your money, I'll kick you in the nuts, and we'll call it a day..."

Well put, but you're comparing apples and oranges. The gear you're comparing is from some of the best audiophile companies in the world. Just thinking about the sound that would produce sends chills down my spine. That gear is several light years, and tax brackets away, from the PS3, Onkyo, and Klipsch. Now, if the PS3 had multi-channel analog output, I'd use that as the source BD player in your comparison.

I'd love to have the system you're describing though.

You are right I am comparing apples to oranges (this is why I had the upgraded system next ). The thing is people try to compare their apples to someones oranges...and try to say that their apples are better than someones oranges but they are in a different league all together. This is why we look at system - I'm like you - I would love to have that analog system! I get chills thinking about it!!!!
