Default Dances With Wolves to get 181 minute theatrical version

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay maybe some of you will enjoy sitting through the 181 minute version instead of the 236, but I was hoping for that full version. I wouldn't cut a minute of it.

Oh well, Dances in 1080p with DTS-MA 5.1 will still be worth it.

Doing the 236 minute version with AVC and DTS-MA would have put to rest any of those statements about getting the 4+ hr releases on the 30GB HD DVDs.

Oh well, maybe next time.

Wait till Warner releases LOTR 3 on THD with an extra HD DVD disc for the bits that wouldn't fit.

Ha ha. I know it won't happen, they'll probably use an HD30/BD50 and HD30/BD25 2 disc set.

If I were warner and wanted to insult HD DVD id use HD30/BD50 2 disk set with the second BD having the same copy of the first .

wow hmm that's a little dissapointing this is one of the titles i was really loooking forward to. I already own the Extended DVD version. I may hold off untill they put that 3 hour 56 min. version out. im afraid when BD really takes off like DVD's there are going to be several versions released.

I also own the extended version on DVD and was ready to pre-order the BD before I realized it was the short version. I'll just wait.

I ordered the 236 minute version from another country to get the extra DTS track on it... Too bad the subtitles don't work right. I've never seen the theatrical cut but I absolutely enjoyed the 236 minute version. There was something very involving about it. Kinda like you're litterally going through all these things with his character. Oh well, I'll still get the Blu-Ray cuz I can only imagine how beautiful everything looks and sounds.

Get the North American version. The remastered Dolby Digital track is better than any of the DTS tracks. (This is coming from a DTS-freak )

If they gave us everything the first time, how could they double dip in the future.

So not only will Dances be the 181 minute version, but it will also be sans special features and on a BD25 disc with AVC/MPEG-4 encoding. DTS-HD Master Audio has been confirmed.
http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...e_in_April/439
Quote:
Each release will feature new 1080p/MPEG-2 transfers (except 'Dances with Wolves,' which is encoded with AVC MPEG-4) and DTS HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 surround tracks. All three will also be presented on BD-25 single-layer discs, including 'Wolves,' which will contain the three hour-plus theatrical cut version of the film.

With nary an extra feature to be found, MGM continues to be the only next-gen-supporting studio to not yet release a single title with any supplemental material at all. Let's hope that changes soon...

Fox clearly are gearing up for a double-dip here, a BD25 for a 181min film, I wouldn't buy this one, I would wait for the next one with the Directors cut and extras on BD50.

I'll probably buy it just to re-watch the theatrical version in HD with what I'm sure will be an awesome DTS track, but when they release the proper and most beautiful version of the film I'll be all over it.

I think I would definitely rent it, but I would like the full film if I was going to spend £15 ($28-30) on buying a film.
