Default Blu-ray content vs. original or recent DVD release

Do Blu-Ray releases omit any originally included conent from previous DVD releases. I understand that some releases contain Blu-Ray specific content, but how about the original version of the movie, as well as Special Features?

I'm not into the extras all that much, I enjoy some of them but for the most part I am in it for the movie and maybe a short insight into the directors thoughts from time to time. So I really don;t pay to close attention to what extras have made to blu.

All that being said, from what I have noticed, any of the movies that had super-duper-director's-extended-cut-platinum-400 disc-criterion-edition released with all the extras, never made it to Blu-Ray. T2 comes to mind. There were countless editions released on DVD with every extra you could think of. The Blu-Ray release was completely stripped down.

At first I think studios were just trying ot get content out there to make some of us happy but did it as cheaply as possible. Now that things are moving forward in the HD movie world, I think they will invest more in what they are releasing.

I have several Blu-ray discs with the original DVD bonus features, and some that have all that and Blu-ray exclusive content. There are some instances where the studios have left off the bonus features, mostly early releases, before they had duel-layer capacity (although Cast Away is more recent and didn't have the bonus content). You can always read the specs online or on the discs to see if it's included or not.

Please don't say "Blu-ray DVD"! It's Blu-ray disc, Blu-ray, or BD.

Listen to her, for she is a woman, and occasionally when they are not complaining, they speak wise words.

You really have to look on a movie by movie basis. Some Blu-rays have all the extras of the dvd while some do not have any extras or omit certain extras.

I think Blu ray's handicap in the extras department is well documented. Not any fault of the format, but lazy-assed studios. They know who they are...

uh....where in my post did I say "Blu-Ray DVD". I said "Blue-Ray" and then I said DVD, as in the former format prior to Blu-Ray. And why do you care that much? Obviously you don't have much of a life.
