Hi everyone.
I'm new to the forum. I have a quick questions and would love if someone could clear this up for me. I recently bought a 32" Samsung, the new 650 series which features full 1080p HD. I also bought a PS3. Here's my problem: My Blue ray movie which I rented (Fantastic 4 - Silver Surfer) only plays in 1920x1080i. My PS3 display setting are in 1080p, but the TV tells me it is in 1080i. I have a 1080p wire, and the TV is definately compatible. Anyone know why it only plays in 1080i? Is it the movie? Or do I have something wrong? Thanks so much in advance. James |

First things first: it's Blu-ray (without the "e"). Silver Surfer is definately a 1080p release, so if your TV is saying 1080i, either your TV is wrong, or it is interlacing the 1080p signal to 1080i. Are you certain that your TV is 1080p? What model is it? |

Thanks for the reply. It is the new Samsung 32" 650 series. The exact model is Samsung LN32A650. I have configured the PS3 so that my "Video Output Settings" says "Current Output Resolution 1080p". Yet when i play the movie it says its in 1080i.
Thanks again. |

I changed my cable, no luck...
I found a guy with the EXACT same problem I'm having. I will copy-paste. Hello all, I have been using my Samsung T5689S Hi Def TV. It boasts 1080p. I have the Sony Blu Ray player (BDP-S500) that outputs in 1080p (run thru the HDMI cable). But the TV reads the input signal as : 1920 X 1080i @ 60hZ. Shouldn't it say 1920 x 1080p @ 60hZ? Also, when I plug in my dvd player thru the HDMI input to the TV, the TV says "1920 X1080 @ 60hZ, and it doesn't put the "i" next to the 1080. Does this mean 1080p? I am running all of these thru my Denon 4308, but as a test, I plugged all of the components in directly to the TV to be sure it wasn't the Denon changing the signals. The cable box also reads the way the Sony reads when I watch TV in HD, always saying "1080i". So being that my dvd just says 1080 without the "i" does that mean my dvd player is playing in 1080p? And the Blu Ray player signal when put thru the HDMI cable to the TV says 1920x1080i @ 60hZ, shouldn't it say 1920x1080p @ 60hZ. How do I fix this. Is it the TV, or the Blu Ray. I have checked the settings on both, and can't find anyway to change it, esp. being it is being plugged in thru HDMI. Please help! I noticed we both have Samsung models. Here was his solution: I can't believe it! I went to setup to see if I missed something the first time. I played with the setting with three options: y,Cb,Cr or RGB (16-235) or RGB (0-255). It was preset to the Y,Cb,Cr. I checked all three and it didn't give me 1080p. BTW, does anyone know which of the three yields the best quality, or which I should set it at? I had the player set to 24p and it still was reading 1080i. I checked everything in setup, I was thorough. Then I looked on the remote.... there was a button marked "video format", and that did the trick. I really think that this is a poor design. It should be adjustable in setup, and the button could also be on the remote. Now, I don't have a "Video Format" button my remote. What should I do ![]() Thanks in advance for your help. James |

Try this:
1. If your PS3 is not directly connected to the TV set, switch off all components and make a direct HDMI connection. 2. Switch off PS3 (from the front and then from the back) and switch on TV 3. Switch on PS3 (from the back) while pressing/touching the power on-button in the front right cornet. In 5 seconds, PS3 should beep and reset the display. 4. You will see the PS3 message on the screen indicating that it has detected a HDMI display. Select the Auto mode. Then PS3 should display on your TV that the connection is at 1080p. Now check the TV with the TV remote, and if it doesn't say the signal is 1080p or just 1080 without i, it appears that something is wrong with the TV display, probably could be PS3 as well. Thanks for the reply Synch. My PS3 is directly connected to the TV. See the thing is, all indications is that it is outputting in 1080p. All is fine and dandy until I put a blu-ray in at it shows 1920x1080i@ 60 Hz...and I think the picture can look better.
Maybe its a Samsung thing. I will call them in the morning, maybe we can figure something out. Maybe I need to try another Blu-Ray too. I'll keep you posted! |

I presume that the PS3 indicates it is outputting 1080p when you reset the PS3 display as given in my previous post. At that point in time, before you insert a disk, what would the TV indicate when you check with the TV remote.
If you haven't checked any other disks, it could be the disk as well. |
