Its a very nice receiver.lol what are you waiting for? Well but you have to have the right speakers to get the juice of it..its been a month I've got mines and I am loving it.Its got the power -> 130 per channel and DTS HDMA decoding and Dolby trueHD deccoding.above all THX certification and the burrbrown DACs.

The only issue was that it HAD the speaker popping bitstream bomb when playing the DTSHDMA bds which has been fixed by a DSP update. So if you are in a budget and want to get everything you need ..make your move to onkyo 805!!

Just curious why you'd only want opinions from those that own the unit???

I have the unit and it is rock solid. I compared it to the Yamaha RX-V1800 and the Denon 3808ci before I bought if that helps any. I think its easily the best reciever you can get for under a grand right now and its equal to or better than some that cost more than $1000.

It's a KILLER unit, but it is HUGE and HEAVY.

I bought one and had to return it because it would not fit in my cabinet. It was too deep. (almost 19") I have a more furniture-like unit that I dropped a lot of money for. I wasn't willing to cut a huge hole in the back of it. I exchanged it for the 705, and I am still very happy.

It also weighs just less than 60 pounds! It's a monster.

If you plan on it sitting out, it will rock.

Although I took my 805 back (I kind'a miss it), I also auditioned the above models as well as the bigger flagship models from Denon and Yamaha. The 805 IMO is the best bang for the buck at the $750 price that I often see on Amazon (right now it's $679 free shipping, and ships Amazon direct and not an affiliate). The 805 gave my Yamaha RX-Z1 a run for the money. The Z1 retailed for $2799 6 years ago, and I actually prefer the 805 over my Z1.

I've had mine since they first arrived, best avr I've owned, love how it sounds, especially DVD-a's SACD's and CD', The Audessey multiXT is better IMO than Pioneers or Yamaha (had both).
I would caution you to give it breathing room, it is not designed to be cooped in a AV closet. Onkyo recommends 6" clearance on top ( I concur )....
If I would buy another I would upgrade to 875 or 905 better upscaling Reon HGV vs DCDi

I own tx-sr805.
I upgraded from 803.

Way different.

805 is very very powerful.
I use it to drive my klipsch speakers
HDMI connection from my PS3 to my Sony projector = 1080p.
135" projector screen - sweet mother of god - HDTV rocks.
I tested Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3) with 805, sounds incredible.

This receiver is awesome.
It is so easy to produce sound with clarity and depth.

YES,
it is heavy and big (for some people) - I have a full basement 1100sqf

It was my un-birthday present at New Year.
Onkyo sold it to me really cheap.
shoponkyo.com had a great deal back then.
I got mine for $460 - refurb. (with discounts etc. etc.)

Have fun shopping

I had an 805 for about a year. I actually just sold it via Craigs list. The main gripe I had about it was not enough inputs. There wasnt much flexibility for sources and such. I believe you can only do 10 to match the remote. I did have the IPOD doc DS-2X I believe it was and liked how that handled an OSD and IPOD video. I also really wanted the HDMI upconversion to 1080p for my displays. I took the ultimate leap and went for Crestron products.

I'm thinking I'll probably go with the 705, personally - since the 805 is apparently the size of Rosie O'Donnell.

I just got a bonus check and was trying to decide between this and the 705 but leaning toward the 705. I wanted to make sure it will do the uncompressed audio via HDMI. I think it does, but not 100%.

There is not really much functionality difference between the 705 and 805. It is more of a performance upgrade. IMO, you would need a REALLY nice set of speakers and a well setup Ht in general to appreciate the difference between the two.

I personally like opinions from people that do own it. its up to them to tell the truth about it. now I just wished there was more out there that owned more than one AVR to give us their input. Im sitting on the fence at the moment

There's a big jump up in power and performance from the 705 to the 805.
  • Ultra2 vs. Select2
  • 130w/ch (0.05%) vs. 100w/ch (0.08%)
  • 60A High Instantaneous Current vs. 36A
  • Certified 4Ω performance (not available on the 705)
  • THX Processing mode (not available on the 705)
  • DSD>Analog conversion (not available on the 705)
  • 24/192 Burr Brown PCM1796 DAC's (not available on the 705)
For $679 right now from Amazon with no tax and free shipping, there is not another receiver out there that touches the 805 in performance:$ ratio.
