Default Rosenbaum and Smallville season 8 - Spoilers warning

Well Lex has officially left Smallville and to me it doesn't really seem right to have a superman show without Lex. Here is the official letter the actor wrote to the fans...

Dear Smallville Fans,
Well, it's been seven wonderful years. Your support is what has made Smallville so successful, and I appreciate you all more than you know.

That being said, it is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career. I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying. I am truly grateful, as Smallville fans are the best fans out there. I sincerely hope that you will continue to follow my career through my hair growth period and beyond.

I'm very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me. I will definitely miss the greatest crew in the world, and the wonderful cast that has been like a family to me.

Thank you Al and Miles for creating the show. Thank you writers, producers, directors and editors. Thanks Tollin, Robbins and Davola for being there for the pilot. Thank you Peter Roth for employing me for ten years. Lisa Lewis, I miss you already. John Glover, thanks for helping me feel more comfortable touching other actors, while acting. Bizarre, but helpful.

Mostly, I want to thank Greg Beeman for directing the "Oh Sherry" video, by Steve Perry, back in the 80's.

Thanks crew. Thanks fans. Thanks Smallville.

I love you all,

Michael Rosenbaum

Kinda saw it coming over the last couple months, but overall, I'm fine with it. It fits in well with how I envision the story movign forward. Rosenbaum was awesome, but I dont thinkt he show will suffer without Lex Luthor. Give time for Lex & Clark to grow apart officially, Lex will become even more ruthless and grow into the super villan we all know and love off screen, strengthen his grasp on Metropolis, and when it all comes together in the end, he will have a new target (superman) to focus on.

Replacement:

Additionally, two new villains will join the cast of characters on "Smallville" this season: the legendary, unstoppable Doomsday, and a female antagonist who will challenge Clark in ways never before imagined. Casting is underway for both roles.

Doomsday: In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on "Smallville" for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.

Female villain: Doomsday won't be Clark's only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.

I heard on an IGN podcast, that Lana and Lex will not be in the new season because they did not renew their contracts, nor will the writters/creators Miller and Gough. The new season will have new writters.

I think the title of thread should be changed. This could be a *HUGE* spoiler for a lot of people.

I heard about this a year ago when the news surrounding Tom Welling extending his contract for a tenth season of the show. At that time there was mention that there hadn't been anything official mentioned about wether Michael Rosenbaum had extended his contract. So, I was expecting this news... it was just a question of when they would release the info to make as little impact on the fan base as possible. I personally know of at least 10 young ladies that will stop watching the show when he is gone because they say that he is the only reason that they keep tuning in.

P.S. I agree that *SPOILER* needs to be added to the thread title.

Well it has been on for 7 seasons. A lot of shows don't make it 1. The show topped off at around season 5. That was Smallville at the top of its game. I don't want to have the show cancelled, but I don't want them to run the characters into the ground either and spoil the show with too many seasons. Maybe it is nearly time for a Series finale that will give a final send off to the movies. I mean Tom Welling is not going to be able to pull off being a 21 year old kid for a whole lot longer, he is 30 already. Hell he is older then Brandon Routh who played the adult Superman!!

Sorry to say, but they are going to AT LEAST season 10. Like I mentioned above, they have signed contracts that bind cast members to a few more seasons.

I think its about time that they end Lex Luthor character. The story needs to move on, it should have done so by now. Now i have to assume that something major is going to happen at the end of season 7.

That's a shame because Season 6 was the best Smallville season by far.......... season 7 is sucking so far though.

I don't have a problem with the current season. Lana not coming back works because Brainiac infects her and she's a veg. Lex goes into hiding as they discover he killed his dad. Works for me.

How do you end Lex Luthor? He's the quintessential Superman nemesis.

I HIGHLY doubt that Doomsday will end up being nearly a good/memorable a villain.

i think the perfect end for him. is that he loses his empire and jailed for life. or committed to a mental institution where for some reason he loses his memory for life. In general smallville being running for seven years, and the plot isn't as exciting as it used to be. i kinda lost interest in the show during season 5, since i started following Heroes.

While I still watch the show and do enjoy it, I have said for a long time that they need to move on and just end it. How long are they going to keep Clark in Smallville and not move on to becoming what we all know he will. They are milking this cow as dry as they can.

I have been following this series from the very start and I think its loosing steam as seasons go by.
This or next season should be the last, they should go out when people are still looking at it not keep it going and run it into the ground.

X-Files all over again.

I think every now and then they have a good story or really exciting eposide. But for the most part I think they keep draging the show on and it does hit many dull spots.
