Netflix vs. Blockbuster Total Access

I have Netflix and they have been very good lately with delivering Blu-Ray titles quickly. I received Night at the Museum and Deja Vu last Wednesday (day after release) and I just got Dreamgirls in the mail yesterday.

About three months ago the story was different for Netflix. I think that Netflix has realized that next-gen DVD's are catching on quickly.

Never used NF so not sure how they compare but for someone who has a PS3 Blockbuster is great. For ~$8/month I can get 6 Blu-ray movies and 1 video game.

Unless you are near a Blockbuster I think Netflix is better. I have both and think that the Netflix website is much easier to use and they seem to have better stock on Blu-Ray. I am in Dallas and both services have the same turnaround (it is the same whether I mail it in or return it to the store).

What I like about netflix is when you select a movie, it will automatically place the blu-ray version (if it is available) in your queue. And when you are viewing your queue it is easy to see if a title is available in blu-ray or just DVD and to change between the formats.

With Netflix, it only takes one day(to or from netflix) in the mail. When I was with Blockbuster, it used to take 2-3 days to or from blockbuster.

The length of time all depends on where the respective shipping center is. One way to find out the shipping times for your area is to ask neighbors, you can probably also call the companies and find out where the nearest shipping center is.

In Dallas if I drop the movie in the mail monday, both blockbuster and netflix get it tuesday the next movie ships tuesday/wednesday and arrives wednesday/thursday.

I use Blockbuster as one of the stores in my area has BD rentals. I expect more ana more BB's to start stocking Bd's. I also get two free additional rentals each month.

I love Netflix and have never used Blockbuster. With Netflix I get my movies with one day turnaround here in Los Angeles, BDs and all. My understanding is that Blockbuster performs reasonably similar. I actually avoid Blockbuster based on general principle and serious distrust of the company. I have a hard time forgetting how they used to not carry NC17, unrated, or letterboxed videos. Bastards. I worry they would just decide a movie I want to see is immoral or offensive to Christ, and not carry it. They used to do that all the time when they were brick and mortar. Back when they were IT, they behaved in typical monopoly fashion, and did whatever they wanted, and you were stuck with it. I've never had a problem with Netflix, ever, I can tell you that much. Neither rent porn, however. Take that into consideration.

how does this work out for ~$8 a month? in store returns? i have gamenflix now and im paying nearly 20 a month for 2 games at a time, plus netflix. please explain.

Blockbuster provides a "coupon" every month you can use either for a free movie or game rental in the store. The instore rentals are subject to normal rental policy so they can't be out indefinately and can incur late fees...

I tried it, and for me the extra game rental just didn't outweigh the better selection and service I get from Netflix for movies. I typically buy my games instead of rent too and wouldn't get enough use out of a service like GameFly either.

I like Blockbuster as I can take the movie back to the store, get another one rented, and they count the movie as returned and ship me the next one. Another bonus is the e-coupon that I can get a free game rental with.

I went to one of my local blockbusters and asked them about the free movie/game cupon and he told me that the cupon dosent work with ps3 games. is this true or does that guy just not know what the hell hes talkin about?

just the PS3 game? That doesn't sound right, it should be for any games. Since I've bought pretty much all the games I care for the PS3, I just use my coupon to rent movies... I had used one time before, forgot if it was PS3 or PSP.

BTW: Blockbuster service on-line is horrible compare to Netflex. I have got movies from Netflix consistently within days, Blockbuster has taken sometimes a week or nothing at all which I had to report and get a new rental.

I am very happy with Netflix. I heard from a friend that BB has very long delays and it takes more than one day to receive their orders. I don't see that with Netflix and I enjoy their Blu-ray support.

Yesterday I signed up for the Blockbuster total access free trial to receive rentals in the mail, and so far I am very unimpressed. Every BD movie I put in queue to be mailed is listed as having some wait time (some longer than others). My question is this...Is netflix's selection (or quantities) better than blockbuster's? If so, then I will have my free trial with Blockbuster only be a free trial.
