Default Warner "coffee book" style Blu-ray Discs

Just wondering if Europe are getting these warner "coffee book" style BDs?

I work in a well known record store in the UK and was having a sneak peak at tommorow's new releases and I noticed Bonnie & Clyde was in a standard BD case

Still havent made up my mind whether I like the "coffee book" style cases so no big deal if we dont get them what do you guys think?

I have no idea but I think some here will probably try to import it if it's released in a standard case.

I'm indifferent on it though.

These are region free so you can import them.

Can anyone confirm that Bonnie and Clyde is region free? I know most Warner titles are not region coded but I want to be sure before ordering. I despise the coffee table books.

I wouldn't have considered buying them if they were in silly packaging, but if they're going to release them in standard cases I might be tempted!

I think I'd rather have them in the coffee book case than the thicker UK case, but either way it's not a big deal, the movie's what matters.

I really dislike the coffee book edition, but it will not deter me from buying a movie that I really want.

Looks like the UK will be getting the thick Warner keepcases rather than the lousy coffee table editions. I just placed an order for Bonnie and Clyde.

I use a simple equation to determine if I want the coffee table cases:

number of movies in coffee table form X number of times viewed per week + total minutes - amount of time per week were I wont look upon my blu ray collection in admiration > actual time admiring my collection = coffee table book

easy!

Aren't these just cardboard cases with digipak inside, like the UK Planet Earth set? I would still put them on a shelf; do other people really put them out on their coffee tables?

Well, technically these are called digi-books, not coffee table editions. I’m not sure where that name came from, and nobody puts them on their coffee tables. They are designed to go on the shelf like all other titles. I've never understood people’s problems with these. Yes, I understand the fit different on the shelf, but that didn’t bring my world crumbling down. I think it's cool they actually go to the trouble to put together a nice booklet to go with the movie. Furthermore, these will most likely be limited editions, so they should be worth some money to collectors down the road. If people hate them so much, they should buy a generic case and print out some artwork and put the book away for safe keeping.

Very nicely put, ajc68. I'm inclined to think the digi-books are special too.

What's not to understand? Many of us don't like the odd size and susceptibility to damage and wear. It's that simple really. I happen to feel the keep case is an attractive and practical way to display and protect my Blu-ray investment. I have no problem with unconventional packaging that appeals to various niche audiences. I just like my discs in a nice plastic Blu case. I will just be forced to buy the import versions.

I understand that you dislike the digibook releases (you're there to state it again in every thread about every movie that has been or will be released in a digibook).

But explain to me this - how is waiting an extra month or more, paying a higher price to import, and then ending up with a Blu-ray case that is a different size than the US ones (something I figure you care about, considering how important standardized packaging is to you) less of a hassle then just buying the domestic release, a $2 blank case, and having your pick of all the great custom covers people have made?

The reason that I am so persistent in expressing my dislike for this type of packaging is because of past experience. I have purchased a number of CDs over the years that came in cardboard packaging where the 'glued-in' tray has lost teeth or the case has become flimsy and worn through repeated useage. The CDs I bought way back in the 1980s which came in jewel cases look as good as the day I purchased them—and the same can be said about my DVDs. I find it rather consistent that someone who is enamored with the scratch-resistant coating of Blu-ray discs would also want the best means of protecting and presenting that media. The keep case was designed with literature clips that the studios rarely use to include printed material other than crap intended to market other titles.

So, picking up Bonnie and Clyde now or in 6 months makes little difference to me. I do not want to buy the movie and put it into a case with an insert that I have to produce or download online. I also believe that if enough early adopters reject the digi-book, it is less likely that Warner Bros. or other studios will embrace it in the future. The European cases are quite attractive and identical in design other than having a slightly larger depth. That makes it sit in the book case nicely along with the rest of my discs. The difference in price is balanced out by the domestic titles that I purchase at very discounted prices through various sales.
