Default Burning my HD content to DVD

I have recorded the 5 Wales games from this years 6 nations championship, 4 of the 5 are in HD. I'd like to burn the games to DVD but only have a standard def DVD Recorder. Can anyone suggest the best way to get the games onto Hi Def DVD (Blu-Ray I assume). I'll also be getting a Blu-Ray player sometime this year and wonder if I can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Any help ?
