Donnie Darko sequel starts filming May 18th - Blu-ray Forum

Screen Daily reports that UK-based sales company Velvet Octopus will be launching sales in Cannes for S. Darko, billed as the sequel to the 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko. Fox has already taken North American rights for the $10 million-budgeted film.

Chris Fisher, who previously made Nightstalker and Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders, will direct.

Daviegh Chase reprises her role as Donnie's younger sister. The cast for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Son of Rambow, Gossip Girl), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2: The Streets) and Justin Chatwin (Dragonball).

The story picks up seven years after the first film when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

Producers have spoken to Richard Kelly about the project but he is not involved in any official capacity at this stage.

it will do nothing but ruin the original. thankfully it was a medicore cult movie anyways, so i doubt many will care

This sounds rather like a disaster in the making.

Original writer/director is not on board and doesn't seem to have anything to do with it... definitely a big 'ole red flag.

I really hate when studios do this. Sequels to movies that don't need them just end up hurting the franchise if anything -- this movie seems to have links to the original movie in name only (any actual connections between the movies could probably be rewritten and not change the story in any meaningful way -- generally means that the movie sucks too much to have a title nobody has heard of)

It's like American Psycho 2 all over again...

Patrick Swayze is not going to be in it since he was diagnosed with that cancer. Didnt they give him like 6 months to live like 4 months ago? what ever happened with that...

Good question... the media can't make a story though unless its the news the person has cancer, dies of cancer or survives cancer... the stuff in between isn't newswothry...

Unfortunately (I'm not a fan though) he's probably in serious misery... I watched someone go through lung cancer... it's not a pleasant way to go.
