Default Insiders Join Us! Welcome!

I have been exchanging PM's with Sony Pictures Insider paidgeek; over at AVS Forum. He really knows his stuff. I have invited him to post here(he did not know of this site) and request that anyone registered at AVS go there and send paidgeek a PM and ask him to join us here.

He has done a great job dispelling a lot of the FUD from Amir and would be a really valuable addition to this forum.

Good idea. I've considered inviting him too. But, he is such a great counterpoint over there that we'd risk him splitting time and not adequately managing the viper's nest.

Nah.

Besides: You can only so much time arguing on forums anyways.

The real action, and where it all really matters in the end, is how you vote with your wallet.

For example: $20 down on a BD disc today goes a lot further than me wasting three hours on AVS.

You get the point.

I'd love to see him, Penton, and Talkstr8t flip through here and drop by from time to time.

Hope it helps!

JTK, You are correct voting with are wallets is important. I have been a movie collector for many years. I always upgrade movies if a better version comes out. I still have movies on Laserdisc that have not been released on DVD or the Laserdisc version is Widescreen where the DVD is pan and scan version. I have sold off most my Laserdisc collection with only a few hundred left and replaced them on DVD. Many DVD’s over the years have been upgraded with better versions. I just sold the 1.54MB DTS version of Broken Arrow on Laserdisc on EBAY and plan on buying the BLU-RAY version. Many DVD’s will be upgraded to Blu-ray this year.
I am holding off on buying Universal titles. The only HD versions of Universal titles I have are on prerecorded D-theater D-VHS. I have had problems with LG players in the past and I really am not interested in paying $1200 for a combo player that lacks interactive features for HD-DVD. One can purchase a Playstation 3 for $499 with 1080P and a new Toshiba HD-DVD with 1080P output this year for $599 and get better quality then a combo player.
I am still hoping that Universal will move to Blu-ray then there would be no reason to buy a combo player. When second generation Blu-ray players come out this year I am seriously considering taking a small risk and upgrading everyone of my DVD players and my parents DVD players to Blu-ray.
On the other side of the coin if Universal studios does not move to Blu-ray then possible more companies will make combo players and the format war will be over. Both HD-DVD and Blu-ray would coexist just like Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio. A Pioneer combo player would be very attractive to me if it played both Blu-ray, HD-DVD, Super Audio CD, and DVD-Audio.
This format war is riding on Universal studios. Many people would go Blu-ray if Universal Studios would release in Blu-ray. Universal Studios has some interesting movies I want. At this point I am boycotting HD-DVD but I can not guarantee that will always be the case. I am not going to purchase two HDTV DVD players for every room in the house. A combo player would be attractive if Universal Studios never crosses over.
The mainstream consumer will just buy the Playstation 3 and get a HDTV game and movie player. Then if they want Universal they will just rent or purchase standard 480P DVD quality.

I do hope that he shows here, just to be able to answer the occasional real question, but I hope he does spend more of his time bringing balance to the very unbalanced AVS.

Of course, I only have a couple of anime related questions so I won't bug him. Much.

I do ask that he PM me or one of the mods/admins when/if he does join. I would like to set up a thread similar to AVS where we could monitor questions and abuse.

If amir came, i'd ask the admin to make it so that he can only see posts, and then when he posts, no one other then himself could read it and he'd think everyone is just ignoring him. That would rock.

I'm sure a certain person is greatly appreciative of the assistance many of you are providing. So far that name appears at least once in over a 100 threads here. Perform various google searches and this forum pops up with a couple of lines. Sometimes the synopsis means the exact opposite of thread. The more the mention the more the chance. How many times do you scan down a google search without opening it (no particular topic or site)?

If I were a certain person and had to justify my position, I would just print off a fistfull of posts from here. If you are deliberatly trying to promote the guy, I don't think anyone could do a better job.

Basically there are people here who maybe unaware of the person (although I would find that hard to believe) and in this case ignorance is bliss.
There are those that couldn't care what he says, as it's so silly, but by arguing against it does give it some credibility.
If you do want to go and argue a point with him - pointless doing it here, as he aint here!
I suspect a number of people are over here happy to get away from him, but there seem a few determined to bring him along, and include him in as many posts as possible. If someone is visiting this site for the first time and read read this thread first what would they think? Remember there are consistently 80 or more guests passing through. I think this forum goes out of it's way to let everyone have a say and you can get away with saying anything about either format as long as you can back it - guess what the same rules would apply to them.

There is a thread or two that are basically dedicated to his antics, or is this guy so why not imprison him there. Is he that important he must be spread all over this site?

There is no such thing as bad advertising for a bad product.

N.B. This is not directed at any particular person/s as this based on over 100 threads!

I will just call him the "A-word".

The A-word reminds me of a snake oil salesman who has a product that can cure anything. My understanding is that they were run out of town once the crowd realized they were misled. People will eventually no longer trust his opinion. He does a great job (just like a used car saleman) but the truth will eventually catch up with him. Once that happens start handing out the tar and feathers, he will be permanently scarred online.

Anyways....I am glad to hear that we may be visited and think a sticky thread dedicated to paidgeek was a great idea. You can call it "Ask the geek"

Amir would have no purpose here because he is not knowledgeable about Blu-ray. He thinks he is, but he's not.

Isn't this just the general overall corporate culture at Microsoft?
