Default Connecting Reveiver to Wall Plate

I know this is a basic question, but I am a newbie...who hopes to someday know what I am doing.

Here is the situation: the house has 6.1 Dolby surround sound (which I have never heard of because I thought they were either 5.1 or 7.1), it has 6 in-wall Klipsch speakers that are wired through the walls to a wall plate. I just bought a receiver that is 7.1 surround sound....and now I am trying to figure out the best way to connect the receiver to the wall plate......any suggestions?

I have read the posts about wire gauges, bananna plugs, soldering, etc etc..but I kind of need a VERY basic explanation of what I need to buy and do.

I am hoping to get this receiver hooked up this weekend. Thanks for your help.
