Default Fish and subwoofers

I'm no expert but is it remotely possible for a subwoofer to split a fish tank in two?

Wanted to put a fish tank in my ht room but this is kinda scary, its only a 5ft by 2 ft tank but still thats quite alot of water.

Thanks.

I would think it is only possible if you rattle it off of its stand onto the floor.

The sound has to be extremely loud (around 140db) and you have to hit the resonance frequency of the glass to break it. The only thing is that the subwoofer can shake the table a little bit. Make sure your fish tank is pretty secure. Use a belt or velcro to secure it.

I think your fish will die from the trauma (and no.... that's not a smart-ass answer, I believe they'll go nuts)

I've had a 75 gal. cichlid tank in my theater room for about a year. It gets pretty loud occasionally, and they don't seem to even notice. Other than lining up across the front of the tank when I turn the room lights down.

sorry... I origionally thought you meant you wer putting a smaller aquarium ON a subwoofer.... I think you'll be fine..... especially if it's a dedicated room, and you don't watch normal t.v. etc in there with full surround etc...

You could always go acrylic and have more peace of mind. I doubt it would break from the sound but from other variables, you never know.

we moved our whole home theater room when we got new speakers just for that reason. But we have really sensitive fish and didn't want them in the same room with the subwoofer. I am glad we did too, because our subwoofer gets really loud sometimes

Default Fish or no fish?

It sounds like you have a 55 gallon tank. That's about 500lbs of water and gravel and stuff sitting on the stand. It would probably take an act of God to move it if it's sturdy and level. I think it's perfectly fine. What kind of fish are you thinking about? Also, keep the tank full to minimize water noise in your TV room. This is the only drawback I can think of. Constant trickle. Don't know if you want to hear that during all your movies from now on.
