I'm starting to imagine getting a surround system set up. Im going to pick up 2 of the Polk Monitor 50s from Frys for $100 each. Next ill be picking up a Onkyo 605. My question is, i've only got enough money atm for either a CSI A4 Center, or cheaper Subwoofer. I'm thinking the Subwoofer will be better to get first... any thoughts?

do you already have an older speaker that you can use in the time being, or do you have no center speaker at all?
If you have something that you can make due with as a center channel for a bit, then I'd go for the sub. A center is pretty important too, so don't skimp on either one. Good idea to save and get one at a time. |

Get the Center first and make sure it is a voice Matched one. (In other words make sure it made by Polk, and if possible from the Monitor Series.)
Save up and make sure you get a good sub, it's worth it in the long run. |

Take your time when you get the sub. If you rush in and get something cheap or something fast, then you will probably be upgrading in the near future. I know from experience ![]() |

Really? The CS1's are a lot cheaper... and the RTi speakers are a LOT more expensive. I want floorstanding Left/Right front speakers... but im not going to spend $400 per speaker. |

You should be fine with the Onkyo. I have a lower model Sony, and it sounds great.

I actually had the same decision recently.
It was a choice between getting a Rythmik 12" sealed servo kit (pretty sexy kit) or doing something with my center channel (either getting a new full set of fronts and center or getting a CSi 5/CSi A6 to replace my CSi3 that I mistakenly went for). I went with a new sub... need to pick up the MDF this week and cut it! Last edited by fronn; 05-19-2008 at 07:09 PM. |

The center is way more important at this juncture.
You will be able to bleed off a lot of the low end to your fronts for now. The center will offer you a nice even sound stage. Absolutely no question and when the time is right, you can get a better sub. Enjoy, |
