Default Favorite Oscar Winning Film 1990-2008

In this span of nearly twenty years what is your favorite film that won for best picture?
I went with Silence of the Lambs, because it was one of the smartest, scariest, intriguing films I have ever seen. It was also a risk, due to subject matter and could of ended up like Bone Collector or even worse Red Dragon.

Still the greatest performance by an actor, IMO.

1. Silence Of The Lambs
2. Unforgiven
3. Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King

The rest I can do without ever seeing again and half on that list is garbage.

Isn't that 19 years?

I would probably have to say The Departed.

I vote for American Beauty, but I don't think we are allowed to talk about quality films on this site. It is strictly Batman stroking, or other mythical superheroes.

Guuuump!

Srsly, we weren't quite sure what to expect when we went into the theater to watch this. Didn't read any reviews or talk to anyone who had seen it. Came out with "wow, that was a great flick" in the end.

I had to go with 'Braveheart' as my favourite. However, I do have to admit that 'American Beauty' threw a loop at my decision making process. Those two are by far the best on the list... for me anyways.

By the way, this has to be the best poll that I have seen on this site!!!

That's a pretty tough question. I voted for Schindler's List. Out of the list it was the one that really made an impression.

A lot of great movies there. Also some not so good (IMO)

I'm going with Forrest Gump. It actually isn't my favourite Oscar Winner, but for it's uniqueness and undeniable win for the year. Never had seen anything like it and when walking out of the theater, I knew there was no way in Hell that any movie made that year was going to beat it for the Oscar win.

I like so many on the list for so many different reasons. They are (almost all) so superb.

This list reminds me that the Academy gets it wrong just as often as they get it right.

Can't pick just one. My favorites: Silence of the Lambs, Gladiator, Braveheart, and LOTR Return of the King.

Exactly, I mean Shakespeare In Love beats out the critically far superior Saving Private Ryan in '98? Talk about bullshit. I'm so glad the Academy has limited campaigning practices. That film won solely because the Weinsteins *****d the hell out of that film to make people notice it more than Speilberg's masterpiece.

And this year, how the hell did The Golden Compass beat out Transformers for Visual Effects? Or how 'bout The Bourne Ultimatum besting it for both sound categories? Bourne was a fine sounding film, but nowhere near the scope of 'Formers who's pedigree included the sound team from LOTR and the Kevin O'Connel/Greg P. Russell mixing duo. Kevin got robbed again! For the 20th time! Just because the Academy isn't a Michael Bay fan doesn't mean they have to ignore the amazing technical merits that Transformers achieved.

/rant.

Anywhoo, LOTR: Return of the King, ftw. The first two got robbed, though, as did Sean Astin for RotK. Come on not even a nomination, wtf?
