Couldnt find this anywhere so I hope this isnt a repost. Netflix has released there set top box to watch instant movies on your tv instead of your pc. For now resolution is dvd quality but the box is HD ready. The box cost $99.99 and I just ordered mine so I will be posting some more info in the future. Netflix watch now movies arent great but lately there selection is getting better. I mostly watch tv shows and documentorys so it should suit me just fine.

There are some movies I wouldn't mind watching, but I keep pushing them back further for other titles I really want to see.... this would help with those (like batman begins for instance) |

Sounds like they are going to incorporate this into other machines.

EDIT: Also, I have never tried an "instant" movie from them, because I just have a laptop, but I'd get the box, or upgrade the PS3s, etc... if I could use this.... "T.V" quality or not! |

yeah it only works with the watch it now movies. But they do have alot of good movies. Misery, Sum of all fears. And tv shows. For 99 dollars it not a huge investment. And with th 200 + channels from cable and so little to watch movie wise its a nice option to have.

I ordered a box. Since I already have a Netflix account it won't cost any extra to watch streaming movies other than the upfront cost. Sometimes, even with my collection of blu-rays, DVD's and all the cable movie channels, I just can't find anything to watch. Also, I can't help buying new gadgets.
This will never replace DVD's and blu-rays, but could be fun to play with. It is even HD capable in the future (they don't go into detail, but I suspect 720p). The press release mentions that they will be working with "blu-ray manufacturers" and console manufacturers. Hopefully this functionality will come to the PS3 (in which case I'll just move the Netflix box to another room). |
