Default wanting to buy new TV

I would like to buy a new flat panel TV in about 2 or 3 months from now.
My new Blu-Ray player will be either the Sony BDP-S350 or the Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD.
I'm wanting to get a TV anywhere from 32" to 40". A 720p would be alright, but would like to try to get one with 1080p. I'd like to get a TV that would have at least 3 HDMI inputs. And I'm wondering about whether to go with 120 Hz or not.
What models (model #) of TV can you all recommend to me? I do like Sonys and Sammys.

Thanks for your help!
Jodi

Hi,

I think this is a good TV for the price. It's a 40" Samsung 1080p LCD, and at $1200, it's hard to beat. Good contrast ratio, 8ms refresh rate and 3 hdmi ports.

My friend just got the sony xbr6 32in and it looked great to me, but he returned it after seeing my samsung 52in 6 series. Now, he has the samsung 32in 5 series and he seems pretty happy with it. In my opinion I think both looked great and would recommend both to anyone but to each his own.

dont get involved with numbers too much. go out to your local electronics store and have them connect a blu-ray player to the ones you're interested in. give every brand at least a small chance (not that samsung or sony arent good).

They carry a wide variety here: www.crutchfield.com. Write down the ones you like, then go to some local shops and demo the tv's. Remember to get what YOU like and what best fits your budget.

If you are going for Blu-ray, I HIGHLY recommend going minimum 46". Otherwise, 720p is all that is needed and you won't be maximizing your quality output.

Hi Jodi...

Lots of people use their PS3 (game console) as a blu-ray player... mostly because it is the fastest loading blu-ray player available and has all the features of profile 2.0 including secondary video decoder (picture in picture). It also shows home pictures and videos and plays games so it is very versatile. Our family has 2. I rarely play games on mine... it is for movies and works great. Has a blue-tooth remote which you don't even have to aim at the console.

As for a HDTV... I would recommend a panasonic plasma 75 or PZ77 series. It is one of the best TV's available and available in many sizes. The plasma TV's are much better than LCD and give better quality colors and 120Hz is not an issue. If you want 24fps playback... you'll have to get a new panasonic like the PZ800... which would be most peoples dream to own... or a pioneer plasma if u have the $ :-)

This isn't always the case. Plasmas are better if you are always guaranteed a perfectly 100% dark room. If there is ambient light coming from shaded windows or lamps in the room, LCDs hold up better when it comes to depth of colour and blacks.

So, if you know that you will always be watching movies in complete and utter darkness, Plasma is definitely the better choice. But, LCD is much more consistent given varying light situations. Also, LCDs weigh a hell of a lot less if you intend to hang it on a wall.

I am thinking about buying a 40" TV. I sit around 3 meters away from the TV. Should I go with a 720p Sony Bravia or 1080p Phillips. I heard that Sony make top quality LCDs, and I currently own their previous flagstrip Trinton range. Are the Bravias also like the Trinton???

I already have Blu-ray on my PC, at 720p and I am very impressed by it....

Plasma will give you deeper colors, LCD WILL NEVER LOOK AS GOOD AS A PLASMA.

Even with light reflecting off a Plasma you have glass, and each pixel colored or turned off, for true blacks.

LCD's can never turn completely off because they have a backlight, that powers through the screen, so that's why the deepest black is always a gray.

So if you watch movies and TV with not much light behind you, Plasma is your bet, If you gaming, or have some light behind you or windows, Go LCD.

I also recommend for Blu-ray and 1080p depending on distance at least a 40" at 5 feet away over 7, go 46" other wise most people won't be able to tell the difference, even though I can.

deepest blacks are a gray? I'm pretty impressed with the black levels on the xbr6. I prefer the lack of reflections too.

Yes, the black is still a gray, the LCD's are getting better but since they are backlit, its almost impossible to get a True black. (A Plasma's black is a True Black because the Pixel can turn off unlike the backlight for a LCD, its always on, that is why it is a dark gray, not a True Black).

The new Sammy's are best I have ever seen, but when you put it up to a Plasma, it still looks better.

Its a trade off, do you want the best colors, with reflection.

or

Decent colors, and no reflection.

I would take the LCD because of your lifestyle, and get a Sammy.

Any size samsung 71 series. they're discontinuing them too so you can get them for cheap. go to best buy, they're even selling the displays for about $1400. very good deal. 1080P, 120hz(can turn to low, med, high), 15,000 contrast ratio.
