Default Axiom Audio VP150 v2 Center Channel Speaker

Ok. I think I've decided that the center channel is going to be the first piece I upgrade in my set up, and I think I've decided on the VP150 v2 based on the reviews from fellow members here. What do you think? Also, if I do end up getting this speaker, which finish/wood should I get? I really like the Boston Cherry and the Chestnut Cherry, but there is also nothing wrong with the classic Black Oak. I need input

So no axiom owner has a review or finish preference?

There are active and supportive forums at Axiom's web site, which I do recommend. A number of members have posted photos of their various finishes. Also note that you can order a finish/grill sample from Axiom for a total of $10, which is a great way to be confident that you're getting something you're comfortable with.

For a center that may well be mounted where little of the finished surface is visible, it may be appropriate to buy one of the cheaper stock finishes (eg. Boston Cherry vinyl), but FWIW the custom High Gloss Cherry vinyl is much nicer IMHO. You realize that the wood veneer Cherry with Chestnut stain would be a 40-50% price premium over the Boston Cherry, right?

Yes, I have realized that. That premium price is the reason I haven't placed an order yet. I would really like to get a custom finish, but I haven't been able to rationalize the extra cost yet.

I have the Axiom VP100, which is their entry-level center, and I love it. For the price, I think that Axiom is one of the best options for someone starting out, trying to get a "sanely" priced speaker setup. My entire 5.1 setup was around $1500.00 USD give or take, and I think that it sounds fantastic.

Keep in mind that it is easy for me to give Axiom two thumbs up, since I own them. I hope that you have at least heard them before in order to know if you enjoy their sound.

Even if you order it and give it an audition and decide that you do not like it, you can always send it back within 30 days. Just keep all of the packing materials.

I chose boston cherry finish, and it is very nice. I think that overall, you will like the Axiom.

I have the M60 package (minus sub) with the VP 150 center and love it. This is truly one of those systems that is worth every penny and much much more. Other complete speaker packages I've used are M&K (5) s150p's, Martin Logan Aeon, Cinema, and Script, and Def Tech's BP2002 system. Axiom speakers are living proof that you can get high-end speakers at bargain prices.

Here's mine:

As you can see, I went w/ black.

I have M80s, QS8s, and a VP150. The M80s are kiler and the QS8s very good but I have a love / hate relationship with the VP150. Most of the time the VP 150 is seamless and unobtrusive but in certain scenes of some movies at high volumes the dialogue has an odd hollow sound like a cabinet resonance or something. It's not a huge thing but when it happens it's very noticeable. IMHO the amazing M80s more than make up for the occasional less-than-perfect performance of the VP150 but YMMV.

I have the vp100v2 as well paired with the m22ti's and it sounds pretty amazing. When I talked to an 'axiom audio specialist' he said that the vp100 was great for distances up to 12ft from the speaker.

I'd highly recommend them.

Sorry no pics but there's nothing special to see here anyway. Just a plain living room with a television & a few speakers down at one end.
