Default CGI in movies

I was recently watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerors Stone, and the part where Neville falls from the top of the building looked SO fake with CGI! It got me wondering if the movie industry is going to have to make changes to how they use CGI in movies because of Blu-ray. With a DVD it was a lot less obvious how bad the CGI was because of other flaws and the lowered resolution. Now with the better picture, they stick out like sore thumbs a lot more!

Will we see a new revolution in CGI and forced advancement to keep up with the pace of home theater technology? I hope so, because it draws you back out of the movie when you see blatantly fake CGI now. There's less immersion and suspended disbelief I think.

if you noticed in that series that the CGI got a hell of lot better. Think they were just starting out on what they wanted to do. There's a couple of sceens in that movie.

i felt the exact way about the lord of the rings movies when i saw them on hd cable. you can really tell where they digitally shrank the hobits and when they superimposed characters into scenery. i still love them movies though.

The first Harry Potter movie had quite subpar special effects in several places. The scene with the Sorting Hat was BADDDD.

CGI is getting better these days, but I do think they overuse them sometimes.

I like the way the Underworld movies worked in CGI and with real actors in suits. I.e. the Werewolves. It gave a realistic feel to the movie. I think if all Lycan shots were 100% CGI thoughout the entire film, it would have lessoned the sense of realism.

I loved it in Lord of the Rings, it was really well used especially considering how new their technology was. In most cases though less is more for me with CGI.
