Default what have you imported?

i am wondering if there is any difference in the picture and audio quality between the different region releases? i mean for the same title, does it matter if we buy a US/UK/HK/JP release?

quite a bummer then, cos the reviews here are usually for the US release... i am considering getting some imports for the different subtitles... do the foreign releases not use the same video but just insert other subtitles?

just to add - can we assume that the US releases will always be of the best quality for audio/picture?

If it is by the same studio both here and abroad, there will most likely be very little difference (ex - Narnia is PCM 5.1 here and Japan it is TrueHD 5.1) if any at all. Most likely the only difference will be the language and subtitles.

If it is by a different studio, then you will most likely have a difference in Extras, Audio/Video, etc (not always).

Just because it is a US release, does not mean it's the best version. The Japan (Sony) and French (Pathe-Fox) Transporters are far better than the Fox domestic version.

Almost Famous is no better than the DVD IMO, I would recommend holding off to see if they do a better transfer for the US.

- Almost Famous (UK) - Transfer looks good to me but I've never seen a different version of Almost Famous. Others have said it is subpar, so I don't know. TrueHD audio included.

- Death Sentence (Germany) - terrific transfer, DTS-HD English audio (as well as DTS-HD MA German audio, but little good that does me).

- The Hills Have Eyes (UK) - transfer ok but seems soft, great DTS-HD MA soundtrack

- I Am Legend steelbook (Canada) - identical to US release, just different packaging

- Starship Troopers (UK) - great transfer, Uncompressed PCM audio

- Sweeney Todd steelbook (UK) - haven't watch this yet, but reviews seem good. TrueHD audio, and I've heard reports that this is the uncut version that was slightly edited for US release (couple alternate angles towards the end with more bloodshed).

Below are the ones I've imported so far. I've been pretty happy with most of them. U-571 was a tad disappointing though. It mostly looked good but had more white speckles than I'd like. I meant to compare it to the HD DVD before I got rid of it (the HD DVD) but unfortunately, I forgot to do so. Also, some of them don't have lossless audio.

1408: Director's Cut
Alone in the Dark: Director's Cut
Beowulf: Director's Cut
Bug: Special Edition
The Cave
Children of Men
Dune
The Exorcism of Emily Rose: The Unseen Version
Face/Off (also have the US version but haven't compared them yet)
The Hills Have Eyes: The Version to Die For
The Illusionist
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
The Island
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider 2
Lonely Hearts
Silent Hill (also have the US version)
Starship Troopers
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Thir13en Ghosts
U-571
Welcome to the Jungle: Extended Version (aka Rundown)

I don't believe a Beautiful Mind was released anywhere.
Maybe the poster mixed it up with Cinderella Man, which was released in the UK, Japan, Germany and Australia.
