Default Sony l BDP-S350 at Wal-Mart Today?

Hello

While I cannot confirm this as having actually seen it on the shelves, I was at Wal-Mart yesterday afternoon in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and they indicated that they have already sold three of the Sony BDP-S350 this week. I was informed that they received them several days ago and already sold out of the units received.

Has anyone else come across availability of this interesting player?

I have been expecting the Panasonic l BMP-BD50 for some time, so this availability of the Sony l BDP-S350 comes as a complete surprise.

I intend to go to both Best Buy and Circuit City today if I can, to see if they too have it available, or at the very least confirm availability generally.

If this is indeed available, this is an interesting development. Certainly, the Blu-ray Sales will pick up with the availability of both the Panasonic and Sony BD Live Players; it seems that many are awaiting availability of complete designs.

Any thoughts or knowledge in this regard anyone?

Thank You

I thought the Sony S350 was not due until July or August.

Just got back from that madhouse known as Wal-Mart. No new players on the shelves. The usual suspects: PS3, BDP-S300, Panny BD30, the new Magnavox.

From what I remember the BDP-S350 is supposed to be released in June and the S550 in August. So with that said, I wouldn't be surprised that they started surfacing at certain stores since June is just around the corner.

Well, I went to Wallyworld today and bought the new Magnavox BD player for $298 before taxes. I still haven't turned it on yet because I'm still waiting for my HDMI cable that I bought from ebay just a second ago. I wanted to buy the Panasonic BD30 but I'm scarce on money.

Nevermind. I'll just use my other HDMI that is connected to my satellite box.

Default The way to check

would be if a walmart manager or employee could provide a upc#. Until then, it is all speculation. Out of curiousity, what was the price for the player?

The BDP-S350 is going to be profile 1.1

I wouldn't be surprised to see the S350 surface in mid/late June.

The BDS350 is supposed to be "Live Ready" like the Samsung1500. Meaning with a firmware update and/or additional memory it will be 2.0 capable.

The 350 is due in July, I am sure that whoever you spoke to mistook the s300 for the s350.

Agreed, but out of the box it's 1.1. Apparently the 2.0 firmware is expected in Q4.

On a related note, I understand Pana is marketing their new BD50 as BD Live, however it does NOT meet the hardware requirement of 1GB memory. Seems like false/misleading marketing to me and if it's true I'm surprised the BD Forum has allowed it.

For the price they want for the BD50 ($699 MSRP) it should have 1GB of memory... I really like Panasonic prodcuts, but the BD50 appears to be way overpriced. Granted, I have not seen one yet, but I suspect the PQ will be similar to the BD30 which I have seen.

Looks like the PS3 is still the way to go based on price to performance....

How much does 1 GB of flash memory cost? Like $10 at most, in a store? This is even worse than some players not coming with HDMI cables (at least those come in different lengths, etc).

Even if they want to give you a slot so you can expand the memory or use multiple cards, there's no reason they couldn't just include a 1 GB card...
