Nice words.

I remember John C. Dvorak from the old ZDTV days.

Dvorak actually gets it!

Quote from article...
Yes, downloaded music has bitten into the CD music business but has nowhere near killed it. And although it appears that downloading movies may eventually have an impact, add to this mix the concept of downloading HD movies at perhaps 30 gigabytes a pop: It's insane. For one thing, the downloads take forever, even via the best connections. And simply put, ISPs will not tolerate it, period. I do not blame them. So it would seem logical to me that Blu-ray discs would be popular and welcome; but no, they are not.

He ends the article with...
"I'd love to see read/write Blu-ray in all my computers tomorrow.

What's wrong with you people?"

Nice article, thanks for the link!

Liked his opening also:

Quote:
Has anyone but me noticed the almost incredible barrage of bad news regarding Blu-ray and the future of the optical-disc formats? It's never-ending; and everyone, including my nemesis Lance Ulanoff, is caught up in what can conservatively be called piling on—or liberally dubbed mass hysteria.
Thankfully people are starting to realize how ridiculous a lot of the articles have been and are starting to speak-out about it.

Blu Ray is going nowhere.

It is here to stay and people need to deal with that in their own way.

Good article. He brings up good points and it is the harsh truth. If you click on the "Discuss in our Forums" the first thing is a HD-DVD fanboy ranting and who has no idea of what he's talking about as far as the business is concerned.

Both Microsoft and Apple (despite Apple being a BDA member). It was nice to seem someone note that Apple has just as much reason to want Blu-Ray to fail as Microsoft and perhaps even more so.

I tried posting a response in that PC Mag discussion thing (before the sniveling red ant's writings got posted). When I hit the "submit" button I got some moderated discussion notice. Perhaps the note will get posted once it is approved. I have a feeling if Lance Ulanoff is the one doing the moderating you'll see nothing but red ant tirades in response to Dvorak's column.

While the format war was raging on, the only reason that apple joined board of directors of BDA is same as why microsoft support HDDVD - Apple don't want microsoft to win the battle either. It think microsoft will do more harm to apple than blu-ray.

Great article, unfortunate truth, all we can really do is sit back and see how this all plays out. It's not like DVD took off in the first year it was out, takes time, and so will Blu-ray.

Excellent article and again, what stands out to me right away is: This is coming from the PC realm, which has been incredibly anti Sony, anti DRM, and anti Blu-Ray since day one.

This isn't the first article I've seen like this trickle out of the PC realm, either, so if even some of them are starting to see reality and call it...things are looking up.

Shine enough bright lights and the shadows disappear.
