DVE HD Basics questions.

ive heard lots of good about it and know calibrating is important and have already done rough calibrations on my optoma hd80.

but i went and picked this up on bluray(duh) today at bestbuy.

and lil jerk there tried to tell me that calibrating doesn't do anything and the disk doesn't do anything and that all calibrations made yourself go away when you turn the power off and all sorts of other douchebaggery mumbojumbo.

i thanked him for his input and told him ill waste my money on it anyways.

so i guess basically whats the word?

this disk any good or did i just piss my 25 dollairs away?

i by default assume that since he works at bestbuy, is an idiot and probably a drug addict. but.
i try and keep an open mind hence this post.

Since you have a quality projector, you'll get great use out of this disc, and any TV worth its salt has seperate settings for every input it saves

thats what i told him (save the idiot part but i was thinking it loudly).
i mentioned theres preferences and all that jazz.
and hes like no.
it goes away when you turn the power off.

i really wanted to ask him if he has an hdtv.
that and if he does how much money he wasted his hddvd player.

Just in case you use the color filters, be aware that the green one seems not to be deep enough so if things don't look exactly right through it but ok through the red and blue it's probably ok.

lol... i have never seen a TV that resets the settings when turned off... the preferences may return to default (example; you have Cinema and Standard picture modes, Standard is default and you did your calibrations on Cinema) in which case you just switch it back to your preferred settings in 2 seconds.

and this only ever happened to me when my TV was unplugged for a new power bar to go in.

yeah im gonna have to go back and make fun of him.

though my projector was well calibrated already.

though it seems im missin a lil bit off the bottom like on the 1920 x 1080 geometry pattern the bottom most border is slightly cut off the top right and left outer edges are there just that bottom one is completely gone.

actually i just put it up and i can see the faintest bit of white...like minuet as hell but there.
just hardly if at all noticeable.

im still pretty new to this hdworld majigger anyone know off the top their head what setting would correct that without throwing the other 3 edges off?

Perhaps your projector has a way you can pull the image out a bit that would move it on screen?

I've not played with the Optoma HD80 but it surprises me that it would not pixel-map source - (i.e. match source pixel for pixel) on the HDMI input as it is a modern PJ.

Check for a POSITION-like control and make sure any OVERSCAN is OFF. Be sure that your ASPECT ratio setting is correct per source. If this in reference to the VGA transport, it is possible there is a "Dot Clock" setting that needs to be aligned.

Though I am loath to recommend AVS hereabouts, the PJ forums have always remained sane for the most part and good info can be found there.
