Default When is it safe to buy a PS3?

With the PS3 available now, of course the first generation units are going to have "bugs" in them.
Over the past one week, a local Wal-Mart one day had 3 PS3's -- they all sold out. Today, they had 4 PS3's in stock.
I want to buy a PS3 exclusively as a first Blu-Ray player, and I am aware that there will be more firm-ware upgrades in the months ahead. I plan to hook one up to an LCD TV like Sony's BRAVIA XBR 2 line (the 32" model).
My question: when will be a good time to buy a PS3?? Any guess as to what months this year, as well as the second or third or fourth generation PS3 models as 2007 goes on.

Thanks,
Jodi

The safest time is when your local/online costco has them instock (they have a fabulous return policy), or purchase it at Best Buy and opt for the PRP, heck even gamestop is offering warranties now-a-days.

Actually, the first-generation PS3 is pretty impressive in comparison to the first generation of Xbox 360.

I most definately agree with banjo!

Don't wait, if you do, you will only wind up with more movie titles to buy when you finally do get a PS3

Best time to buy a PS3 in my opinion was on 11/17/06. I haven't had any problems with mine. So if ya see it, snatch it up.

If you just want it for blu-ray go for it right now, but if wanted for games you could wait until march when more titles are out

Whatever you do, DO NOT buy the stupid store warrenty. It's a huge rip-off. Sony offers a one year warrenty of their own and after my PS3 stopped working after 2 weeks, they replaced it for FREE!!!

That is normally true. And I will generally avoid 1G stuff. But, the PS/3 is a work of art.

Sony clearly used the delay from the spring to test the heck out of it. It's almost flawless. I really wouldn't worry about it.

That's the thing the Sony nay-sayers keep forgetting: Unlike the launch of the XBOX360, which had widespread hardware problems, the PS3 has seemed to be quite stable. There are obviously issues here and there, but nothing widespread like the 360.

I was gonna say that when the Xbox360 came out it was riddled with way more hardware problems than the PS3 currently has, but I see many have beaten me to it

It must be nice to have so much disposable income.

Also, it must be nice to be the CEO of Best Buy.

Thanks everybody!!!!!!
I'll get mine as soon as I move from Kentucky to upstate New York a little later this spring. I want to get settled into NY (where I will go to grad school), and get my finances straightened out first.
I do currently have 2 Blu-Ray discs: Saw III and Aeon Flux. And, of course, much more on the way!!!

Thanks again,
Jodi

I got my ps3 the first week of December. The only problem I had was after watching a movie, if I went right into trying to play a game, I got no sound. I had to turn the system off, then on to get sound. The very next update fixed that issue and I have not had a single problem since.

I got my PS3 on the release date within one hour of it's launch. It has worked and continues to work perfectly for BD playback and gaming.
