Thumbs up The Strangers

Just got home from seeing "The Strangers". Good flick. I cannot remember the last time a movie made me physically jump like this one did. Eddie likey. Definitely picking this one up on Blu when it comes out. Maybe they'll make an unrated or director's cut. Some of the stuff in the previews wasn't in the movie.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to this on blu ray.

Can you add some general spoilers? Is it a ghost movie? Other?

Saw it as well. It had some great tension at times. It seemed like it could really be happening. It did start to lose its momentum near the end. Over all I was hoping it would have been better. My friend hated it. I thought it was pretty good but not much of a re-watch value to it.

The ending was just another lame horror ending but I really loved the first 30 minutes or so very creepy at the beginning but just got more cliche as it went on.

Nope, not a ghost movie. It's supposedly based on a true story about a violent crime that took place in 2005.

I didn't mind the ending. It kind of made me feel like I just watched something I shouldn't. Not a lot of gore in this movie, which I like from time to time, but I thought it was good.... beginning, middle and end.

The Strangers was a pretty decent flick. It delivers both scares and tension with equal fervor. I haven't jumped this much since 2003.

One scene, which is a horror film cliché, in which a main character hides in a closet was redone quite well. The way the scene inside the closet was framed (you have to watch to see what I mean) and the way Liv held her breath makes the tension feel so real; I was holding my breath in the whole time as well!

Maybe I will check it out tomorrow. A little unrelated to the topic, but interesting. The movie became a financial sucess on Friday (date of initial release). It's production buget was $9 million and made $7 million on just Friday's ticket sales.

I actually keep going into that theater while I'm at work (work for Cinemark). I need to stop and watch it from the beginning. Unfortunately I watched the end first....

I gave this movie the benefit of my doubt and was really hoping it would be good (especially now adays when im spending 10 bucks a ticket.)

My conclusion: Very poor movie comprised only of cheap scares.

The strangers adds absolutey nothing to the genre but also fails to recreate anything relatively well. This movie had all the potential in the world to be a great psychological thriller, or a frightening slasher flick but in the end its going to end up on the same list as "One Missed Call" and "Prom night", which essentially is the "completely useless horror movie" list.

The first act was by far the best as it began to build some tension and suspense; but after we are in the middle of it all, it just goes on and on and nothing really ever happens in the duration. Our main characters are chased endlessly and the entire movie feels overly long. Yes, its only 90 minutes.

This movie essentially has zero plot, but many cheap scares. By cheap scares I mean the instances where you KNOW something is going to pop out but you're scared anyway because its just so darn loud and obnoxious.

And my absolute pet peeve of any horror movie is the stupidty in the main characters. Those same characters that make irrational life ending decisions that ultimately have you cheering for the bad guys. While this movie isn't so obvious with that trait, I can name a bunch of idiotic moves on both the main characters parts that made me laugh in my seat.

Rating:
2 out of 5

I really am not a hater. I enjoy most movies, this was just as empty and as exhausted as a genre movie could be. I have absolutely no interest for this blu-ray release.

Yep. Fantastic first 30 or so then just devolves into BS. The ending really sucked too.

Will rent this for sure. Looked promising but I have a feeling it gets into cliches etc as mentioned here as it goes on.

Finally got to see it and it is suspenseful as hell for like 45 minutes and then it gets really lame. didnt like the end. The one thing that really made me mad about this movies was the fact that it was only 90 minutes?!?!? they coulda added another 15 or 20 Min and done a better ending.

The director did a MASTERFULL job of building tension.....all for nothing though because it fizzled in the final act and the ending was rediculously bad.

Everyone here who hasn't seen it is better off renting Vacancy on blu-ray. Although its pretty much better in every aspect, its not that great of a horror movie either, but I'd rather watch that than strangers again.

I read that too about the characters making stupid choices.. it was a big negative. I'll probably rent it on BD in a few months.
