Ok, Just splurged on a pioneer hi def reciever (see sig for model) it supposely has all the sound formats, true hd, hd dts, linear pcm etc. etc.) but what are the limits of what i am actually hearing because i have the sony 300? a guy said it doesnt support dts hd, what else doesn't it do? Im thinking of getting the sony 350 which supports it all right? I mean even with the 300 and the new reciever it booms and shakes and sounds sweet, but what am I missing via the 300?

Here's what you can get:
If you have 5.1 analog inputs on your receiver, you can get uncompressed PCM (available on some Blu-ray titles) from the BDP-S300 by running the 6 separate cables between the units. You can also get PCM via HDMI connection. With the Audio (HDMI) setting on the BDP-S300 set for PCM, you can [B][U]supposedly get Dolby TrueHD via HDMI connection. I cannot prove it since I don't have an HDMI equipped receiver. With the Audio (HDMI) setting on the BDP-S300 set for PCM, you can supposedly get Dolby Digital Plus via HDMI connection. I cannot prove it since I don't have an HDMI equipped receiver. If the Audio (HDMI) setting on the BDP-S300 is set for AUTO, you will only get regular Dolby Digital 5.1 or regular DTS 5.1 sent via HDMI connection. That's it ! No DTS-HD No DTS Master Audio Solution: Wait for the new Sony BDP-S550 blu-ray player due out in Fall 2008. For me, that player will internally decode ALL codecs and send via the 5.1 analog outputs to my non-HDMI receiver. In your case; you'll get ALL codecs sent via HDMI connection for external decoding by your receiver. I don't believe the new Sony BDP-S350 handles all codecs via HDMI connection. You can verify that out yourself. |
