Default Blu-ray Emulator

Is there any kind of Blu-Ray software emulator created or going to be created in the near future? When I'm creating Blu-ray content, it gets expensive to have to burn a BD disc everytime I want to see how it looks, or whether it will play consistently on the PS3.

I know HD-DVD had one, but haven't been able to find one for Blu-ray yet, and didn't see any info about it on Blu-ray.com

Sony has a professional one out,but it costs thousands. I don't know if you're in a pro environment

Thanks Wicky. We work in a pro environment, but not one with a budget like that, ha ha. But it is good to know, there is at least something out there. What's the name of the emulator if I may be so bold?

Another possible option may be to mod a PS3 as a hard drive and transfer files over for testing as well. Anybody tried this yet?

Not through any official means, and it's not permitted to discuss busting copy protection here

Sony has a software emulator available now

Quote:
Sonic® and Sony®'s Media Format Group are delighted to offer the world's first professional emulation system for Blu-ray Disc title testing. This jointly developed BD-ROM Integrated Testing Environment includes three components: Software Emulator, Hardware Emulator, and reference BD-ROM discs with extensive BD-J code libraries. The program is designed to provide BD professionals with a comprehensive emulation workflow for benchmarking and testing titles using the official Sony BD playback engine used by all of Sony's set-top playback devices.

Includes: Sony Reference Software Emulator and security dongle.

* Jointly Developed by Sony and Sonic - The Sony Software Emulator has been jointly developed by Sony and Sonic to provide a robust software emulation environment for BD professionals.
* BD-ROM Profile 2.0 Emulation - Emulate Profile 2.0 (BD-Live) BD-ROM projects directly from your computer's hard drive.
* Comprehensive BD-ROM Support - Whatever flavor of BD-ROM you produce, the Sony Software Emulator supports it. Emulate both HDMV and BD-J content.
* Player Status Display - Quickly view the BD-ROM player's settings and status including parameter registers, stream numbers, user operations, and binary masks.
* Customizable Player Configuration - Adjust your testing environment by switching player settings including profile, region, country code, text subtitles, and audio stream.
Hardware emulator coming end of the year

Call Sony about it, probably same number you'd call for Blu-print

You could also just burn the discs on 25/50GB BD-RWs.
