Default Best voice among classic rock singers....

I love classic rock! Back in it's hey day there were some great frontmen with fantastic voices. In your opinion, who had the best voice among classic rock acts?

If I left anyone out of the poll that you feel should be in there, let me know. These were all I could think of right off the bat.

Oh as for my vote, it's Brad Delp of Boston.

Maybe not the best singer ever, but for classic rock one of my all time favorites is Robert Plant of Zep

Best but not my favorite would probably be Steve Perry in terms of range and vocal ability. This is a great list by the way, anyone of them up there is a note-worthy singer. I think Jimi Hendrix would have also been a great candidate.

I agree. For me it was an extremely hard choice between Perry and Delp. Both were amazing vocal talents.

Jimi Hendrix?!? When I do a "best guitarist" poll I'll be sure and include him but I never thought he had a very good voice.

Hendrix didn't think he had a good voice either, I love it. It moves me almost as much as his playing.

Respectfully disagree. I understand why you would feel that way and I would most certainly consider Lennon and McCartney as two of the greatest stongwriters of all time (certainly the greatest songwriting duo). However when considering great voices in rock history, they never come to mind for me. Infact, I'm not even sure if The Beatles would really be considered classic rock. It's like they're in a category all their own.

I understand your pov. Classic Rock is such a huge category that many different types of rock can be considered. I know that some "classic rock" stations play lots of Beatles songs (later/heavier stuff) and some don't play them at all. They do deserve their own category, so I gave them their own poll.

Jesus, what a poll. I've gotta go with Freddy Mercury (and what a kickass name), but I've got to throw a word in for Plant and Paul Rodgers as well. Paul Rodgers + Queen was pretty cool.

On a side-note, has anybody ever heard any of Paul Stanley when he was playing The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera in Toronto? It's not quite as good as some of the "regulars," but pretty impressive. I love singing, and I love Queen and some Kiss, and it frustrates the hell out of me when I try to sing along. There are very few Queen/Kiss songs that stay in my range throughout the entire song. Journey's the same way. I can get to the chorus in "Don't Stop Believing" and after that I'm toast.

Robert Plant is my vote. If not for Led Zeppelin, then his work with Allison Krauss. That was the best album of last year!

I'm with ya' on Paul Stanley. You know, KISS has always been scrutinized heavily by the critics over the years (a lot of it is well deserved). However I feel that Paul Stanley does not get the credit he deserves for how talented a singer he really is. Anybody who thinks he cannot sing needs to go listen to songs like I Still Love You, Jungle, Nowhere to Run, and Everytime I Look At You. The man can flat out belt it!

Agreed! Don't get me wrong. I love Queen and Freddy Mercury certainly has a distinctive, unique voice but no way would I say he's the best. For one thing, as good as he is, he sings a LOT of falsetto which grates on my nerves and he does a lot of that "Cher" thing with his voice where it sounds like he's singing in front of an electric fan. Not trying to flame here. I think FM definitely belongs on the list but to say he's the best of the best? No.
