Default Actor/Actress Strike

I heard there are talks of an Actor strike (similar in reasons to the writer strike I guess)

I am all for it.... I think Studios will up their production of Catalog titles.... could be really good for Blu-Ray !

If more concentration on catalog titles is the result of a strike, bring it on.

oh my god this would by awful.

can you imagine if we did not have classics such as meet the spartans, jumper, norbit, and you don't mess with the zohan for a whole summer.

I don't think I could handle it. especially if all i got fed with is movies like wizard of oz, the good, the bad, and the ugly, star wars (OT), and some Kubrick's.

I'm sure they'll cave into the actor guild's demands in time for the sequels "Jump Again" and "You Messed with the Wrong Zohan" and in time for a "No Country for Old Men" Satire........ The studios can't risk missing out on those gems.

You people don't know how the entertainment industry works, do you? They have things like movies in production a year or more before it's ever released so movies would not be effected for about a year. And since it's the Summer then most TV shows are on their routine Summer break anyway so they would not be effected until September or October when the new seasons start back up.

As for the Writer's Strike, they needed it. Many writers can barely afford to feed themselves and they count on those royalty checks from their previous works that continue to be sold and resold to carry them from one job to the next. All they were asking for was if the producers and studios were making money that they share the profits. That sounds fair to me. Which that's what they got but it was not as big of a share that they were going for. The Actors/Actresses will probably be given the same type of deal which really isn't needed as much since they are paid more than the writers for the initial work anyway.

No, I guess I don't know how the entertainment industry works. But I'll be sure to hop right behind everything you say since you have a very low post count and zero inside information.......

I don't think there are very many people struggling to feed themselves in Hollywood right now. And if the actors want to call a strike, then I'm sure directors find some unknown's with enough talent and desire to still make a decent movie.

I heard a rumor about this actually around the time the Writer's Strike ended.

Nothing official, but from what I heard it should start in July.

They cannot use scabs in Hollywood. No self respecting director would do it and no studio has the guts to do it. And you are wrong. Alot of people in Hollywood are not actors or directors. They are tons of Makeup people and boom operators who depend on going from job to job to make a living and support themselves and their family. The writer's strike hurt them bad, so the last thing the studios need to let happen is an actor's strike. I really hope it does not happen, it hurts a lot of people, as many as if not more than it helps. Studios please pull your heads out of your behinds and get a deal done. You got the money.

I stand corrected, thanks for the information Mr. Scorcese.

I didn't ask you to hop right behind me. I want people to do their own research and come up with their own opinion instead of following whatever the Media tells them. Remember one thing, the Media does not care about you. They care about ratings and making money so they will show/tell you whatever they think will bring in the most viewers.

Maybe I don't have many posts (Or maybe I don't care to spam forums with useless information) and maybe I have no insider information (Then again you don't know if anyone here really does or if they are just really good at guessing the correct outcome - such is the internet. You don't have a clue who is who or what is what.) But the point still remains that California lost millions of dollars due to the Writer's Strike and that's thousands of people that had to go find piss-poor jobs just to feed themselves. If you like your Blu-ray movies and TV shows then I suggest you start thinking a bit more on how the people in Hollywood are treated because it may all come crashing down leaving you with nothing but your thumbs to twidle to keep you entertained.

Please tell me what the average television writers anual salary was before the strike, then tell me they could barely affor to feed themselves.

Was their demand for royalties warranted? Perhaps. But get me that salary number and we will talk.

No inside information! GASP! It's called reading a ****ing newspaper. You don't need to be an insider to comment upon the situations of writers and actors.

What unknowns? What are you talking about? You mean you think directors, who are themselves unionized, would find real actors, that are not interested in being in SAG?

That's just it! Writers don't get paid an annual salary so from your stand point the answer would be $0. They get paid a certain dollar ammount for each script used per TV episode or per movie. Then they rely on the royalties to keep them afloat until their next script sales. Writers were only getting 2 cents per DVD sold. No matter if they were saling the DVD's for $20 or $30 the writers still only got 2 cents. I do not remember what it increased to but the other sticking point was the internet. As many people know you can go to just about any major TV stations website and view full episodes straight from their site. The writers were not getting anything from the ad money even though the producers and studios were. Why should the producers and studios make money off of the writers creation and not the writers themselves?

Actors and Actresses are paid in a similar manner but they make lots more per episode or per movie. Last I heard, Reese Witherspoon was the highest paid actress pulling in around $25 million per movie. Does she need a raise? Hell no. It's the struggling actors that would strike if any of them did. The ones running from audition to audition just to get their hands in some soap commercial.
