I am new to the world of DVD's/Blu-Ray disk's. If I understand things I have been reading over the last 48 hrs, all of the major Digital Medium programs will be discontinued and replaced by Blu-Ray format.

A couple of questions if the above premise if true. How do I get ahead of the curve? I certantly do not want to spend the money on a DVD player (I am on a very limted income) that will become obsolete in a matter of months.

If I purchase a Blu-Ray player, will it work for my computer as well as my TV? I have 2 old 19 inch TV's-No V chips, no parental control, no HD. Budgetary restrictions prohibt any upgrades in that respect.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Christo

Sorry to say but your'e screwed. BD player will not work on your PC and you need an HDTV to get the full experience of Bluray. Start saving that cheese. Get the tv first, then the player. Oh BTW it's disc, not disk. Good luck and welcome.

To me it sounds like you and your situation is a perfect match for standard DVD .

DVD isn't going anywhere any time soon, and since you can't upgrade the tv etc, then it really won't be beneficial to you to get a Bluray player. A bluray player will work with your current tv's, but it will look the same as a DVD player since your tv's are not HD capable.

DVD will be around for several more years and Blu-Ray may not. Buy yourself a nice <$100 DVD player and you should be in great shape for the next several years or until your financial situation changes. The $100 won't be wasted, since Blu-Ray will have to drastically come down in price for it to actually succeed.
