Hi,
Any and all help is appreciated. I got the HQV Benchmark Blu-Ray (http://www.hqv.com/index.cfm) to test the picture quality for my set-up. In short, all 4 tests were run, and the set-up failed all 4 tests (with a big score of 0). However, I have a few questions: 1) The BD says in order to test the TV, set the player output to 1080i w/ noise reduction off, and to test the player, set it to 1080p w/ noise reduction on. First, I don't know how to switch output on my PS3, and am not sure if it has noise reduction. Help on this? Second, after 'tweaking' a couple possible settings on PS3, the 'output indicator' on my TV always says it showing 1080i for the tests. I would appreciate any help to work through this. 2) The HQV seems to be good at showing you that the picture sucks, but they don't even come close to telling you how to fix it! Its like paying someone to come to your house to assess your picture, telling you its terrible, then leaving. Here's a quick run-down of the tests: HD Noise Reduction: Picture of flowers. The picture was far from crisp, and had noticeable noise in the shot ('moving' pixels in the flowers) Video Res Loss Test: 5 boxes (4 in corners, one in center) on a gray/white screen with 1 pixel horizontal lines in them, as well as a spinning white bar. Good pic: Spinning white bar has no jagged edges, and the lines in boxes are clearly visible. On mine, white bar edges were jagged, and boxes were strobing (both bottom-score worthy). 'Jaggies' test: Three short white bars in a row go back and forth a couple inches from a single radius. In a good pic, all three should not have jagged edges. In an decent pic, top two bars look fine. In an OK pic, only top bar looks good. Bad pic, all three are jagged. I would say my set-up was just over 'bad', as the top bar had just-noticeable jaggedness. Film Res Loss Test: The screen from Vid loss is back. This time, the shot 'pans' back and forth across the original screen (sans spinning white bar). Again, lines should be seen in the boxes, and, again, more strobing on my set up. Now, I know once question one is answered, I may be able to go back and get better results. But, other than that outlier, any other help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks! PS - I noticed on their website that they have a lot of 'supported/sponsored' products. I am now wondering whether or not the company has set up the BD to only do well when testing those supported products? Hmmm... |
