Default Looking for Articles on PS3

Hey folks. I need a little help from the community. For some time now, I've been trying to get my dad on board with blu-ray. As most of us here know, the PS3 is the best blu-ray player on the market, mostly because of its firmware upgrade feature (are there any other players that even have this obsolescense-proofing feature?). He's been looking at some players, but he just doesn't have any information at all, and he absolutely refuses to consider a PS3 because he "doesn't want a game console". I just can't seem to pursuade him that the package of features (multiple media ports, rudimentary computing and web surfing, etc.) makes it a super buy.

What I need help with is this:
I remember reading some recent articles discussing how many people are buying PS3 primarily or even exclusively as a blu-ray player, not for gaming. Could you folks help me find those articles so that I can pass them on to him?

Also, other similarly relevant articles would be appreciated, as well.

PC's have this feature, but to answer your question - look at the June issue of Home Theater Magazine online. (And I'm not even a PS3 fan!)

Sony PlayStation 3 Game Console/ Blu-ray Disc Player

"Sony’s gaming console still the Blu-ray player to beat."

"The PS3 remains my first choice in a Blu-ray Disc player, and by a wider margin than ever, more than a year after its introduction. Not bad for a Blu-ray player whose day job is being a game console."

Actually every blu player ever released has upgradable firmware.
Soon everyone will have a 2.0 player out and your dad can pick one of those.
(unless your real motive is that you also get to play with the PS3.)

Real soon, there won't be a reason to blindly recommend the PS3 as the player to get.
This, believe it or not, will be a good thing for bluray.
It is going to happen.
It has to happen for the good of the format.

I was out of line for going off topic.

The OP can show his dad this.

Highlights
Standard setting speed and reliability with Blu-ray playback
Outstanding pure picture performance with Blu-ray Discs
Very respectable upconverting DVD performance
Wi-Fi Internet for Web interactivity and system updates
Loaded for interactivity; meets Bonus View and BD-Live specs
Lacks bitstream output for TrueHD and DTS-HD MA
And for his farther

Some enthusiasts balk at putting a game console in their home theater system. I pity them the sacrifices they’ll have to make to stick to that. For those with HDMI switching, the PS3 involves far fewer compromises compared with the standalones, most of which are “way back machines” in comparison. Simply put, the PS3 costs less and does more, and does it better.

Snapshot
With its superb picture and sound quality, future-proof features, and attractive price, Sony's PS3 manages to live up to the hype.
Plus
•Excellent picture and sound
•Bargain price compared to other players
•Loaded with cool, useful features
•Has future-ready HDMI 1.3 connection
•Fast disc loading and response time
Minus
•Real remote control costs extra
•Loud fan noise
•No high-def upscaling for DVDs
•May get shot at waiting in line to buy one
Key Features
•60-GB hard disk
•802.11 b/g wireless networking
•Onboard Dolby TrueHD decoding
•Plays PlayStation games, Blu-ray Discs, DVDs, CDs, and Super Audio CDs
•Ethernet jack
•Four USB inputs
•Compact Flash, Memory Stick, and SD card slots
•Rips CDs to hard drive and automatically collects song metadata
Note to the OP, the minus about the fan is not really true. not everyone has a problem with the loud fan. i dont, the only reson why it should get loud is if the room its in is warm. my room is always cool especially now that i have my AC on and the fan stays low. and iv heard that the 40gig stays quite all the time. and that dvd upscaling thing is old news, the ps3 has been doing that for a long time now.
